How much for a replacement car key?

I have a 2012 Honda Civic and I bought it used but no spare key. Is it possible to get just a plain key with out a remote for cheap?

Not sure about the civic. My 2007 Odessy(sold since) replacement key was $175- Disgrace!

I suspect you will need a key from Honda with the correct chip in it. The Honda parts department should be able to tell you that over the phone.

Yea modern keys require the chip in them to work properly. You'll more than likely have to go to the dealership and pay in excess of $150

Possibly but it would still have to have the transponder chip in it to work - cost $200/£200 appox for the Honda part

A spare key will run $150-$200 but if you lose your only key it will run more like $400-$500 for one key. You can save some money by buying your blank online.

For a fully functional key you will pay the sorts of prices the others mention, but there's value in having just a plain key cut to fit for a dollar or so. If you lock your keys inside it will come in mighty handy. You really need a full spare, though. Some automotive locksmiths can program it into the car for less than dealer cost.
