How much will car insurance cost me?
So I'm going off to university in September and I'm debating buying a cheap car so I can come home and work while I'm in school, but I don't know if it'll be work it or how much it will actually cost me. I live in ns, Canada and I'm a 17 year old female (I think they go by that for car insurance?) I was thinking just a cheap honda civic or something, old but reliable. I just don't want to if it's not going to be worth it. And I'm not sure how it would affect my student loan (they asked if I had a car but I put no)
There are a lot of factors that will affect the cost of your insurance. The information you provided is not enough to generate an estimate.
Factors such as, insurance coverage, age, mileage and value of your car, if car is paid off or financed, liability or full coverage, your own policy or under your parents policy, number of years you are licensed, driving record, area of residence, model of car, safety features of the car, theft deterrent/recovery feature, daily average travel distance from home-school-work, discount for completing a defensive driver course and driver's education, and discount for good student (high GPA). And many more.
So it will be best to contact your local insurance agent for an accurate quote. There's a lot of information needed, but it will not cost you anything to get a quote.
You do not provide anywhere near enough information to hazard a guess. You're best bet is to contact an insurance broker in your area and ask them for a quote. This will give you the most reliable answer.
No way of knowing. Difference provinces have different insurance laws -- some have insurance sold by private companies others have insurance only sold by the provincial government. In addition, rates vary by city, the type of vehicle, how far you drive to work, the number of years of safe driving, whether you are insured for driving in the US (i.e. $2M liability), where the vehicle is parked (garage, street, driveway, etc.), etc., etc.
The average price in Nova Scotia is $1,100 a year. New drivers are more likely in the $3,000+ range. Again, it varies and they only way to know it to start getting quotes.
Age, # of years you have had a license, location, whether you have taken a defensive driving course, how far you plan to drive on a daily basis. Honda civics are the top stolen car in Canada. That will factor into insurance.
I believe your student loan documents say that you must report the purchase of a vehicle.
