How to adjust the clutch on my '02 Honda Civic?
The clutch on my car catches too high. The clutch is hydraulic, and from what I heard hydraulic clutches don't need adjusting. How do I make it so that it doesn't catch too high.
The first thing you should do is locate the clutch fluid reservoir and make sure its full. Its bolted to the driver side firewall usually, is the same color plastic as the brake fluid reservoir is and its round and about 2" tall.It holds brake fluid if its low. The next thing to try if the reservoir is full is to bleed any air out of the system. The slave cylinder is located on the transmission shaft. There may/may not be a bleeder valve where the hoses go into the transmission. If one exists, you can bleed it just like the brakes, but if the valve isn't present you're out of luck.Other than those two things, a clutch engagement near the top of pedal travel indicates a worn clutch disk and/or worn pressure plate. There's no adjustment on a hydraulic clutch. If its not low on fluid or doesn't needed to be bled, the clutch components are simply worn and its time for replacement
Before adjust the clutch pedal height (Clutch pedal "Free play")
Inspect the clutch pedal position switch.
Inspect the clutch interlock switch.
Remove the driver's floor mat before adjusting the clutch pedal.
The clutch is self-adjusting to compensate for wear. The only adjustment is the clutch pedal height or "Free play". I have include a diagram/ picture for your viewing.
If there's no clearance between the clutch master cylinder piston and push rod, the release bearing will be held against the diaphragm spring, which can result in clutch slippage or other clutch problems.
Loosen the lock nut (A), and back off the clutch pedal position switch (B) (or adjusting bolt) until it no longer touches the clutch pedal (C).
Loosen the lock nut (D), and turn the push rod (E) in or out to get the specified height (F) and stroke (G) at the clutch pedal.
Clutch Pedal Stroke: 130-140 mm (5.1-5.5 in.)
Clutch Pedal Height: 198 mm (7.8 in.)
Tighten the lock nut. With the clutch pedal released, turn in the clutch pedal position switch until it contacts the clutch pedal. Turn in the clutch pedal position switch an additional 3/4 to 1 turn. Tighten the lock nut. Loosen the lock nut (H) and the clutch interlock switch (I). Press the clutch pedal to the floor.
Release the clutch pedal 15-20 mm (0.59-0.79 in.) from the fully pressed position, and hold it there. Adjust the position of the clutch interlock switch so the engine will start with the clutch pedal in this position. Tighten the lock nut.
Simple, since you are not a mechanic you take the car to a professional, you explain the issue and he, or she, shall inform you of the solution and provide an estimate of the repairs. Please experiment with things like this and end up with higher costs repairs. Not advisable.
Replace the clutch
Only an idiot would tell you to adjust the pedal rod. That's just for pedal freeplay. NOT height adjustment. When a hydraulic clutch has a high pedal it's because the clutch disc is worn out. You can double check this by putting the tranny in 4th gear at a dead stop and rev the motor to 3,000 rpm. Then release the pedal suddenly. If the motor dies you have a bit of time yet. If the rpms slowly drop and the vehicle barely moves the clutch is slipping and you need to replace it. If you messed with the pedal rod already you need the pedal to have 1/4" of freeplay before the rof hits the master cylinder piston. Use your hand to push the pedal to check for the freeplay.
- Trying to adjust caster: How to convert inches to degrees? Caster on the driver side is nearly 4 degrees more than the passenger side which is in spec at 2.2. The driver side is at 5.9 positive caster and right now I'm trying to figure out the amount of washers I need to help with the issue. I looked around online and found caster spacers for honda vehicles that come in 1/8 and 1/16. How would I convert inches to degrees?

- How to adjust my dirt bike to my size? I ride a Honda XR500, I'm 6'5 and was wondering how do you lower your pegs and how do you make your seat higher. For the pegs do you have to lower the gear shifter and brake too? When I stand up on the bike the height is pretty good but when I sit down it sinks quite a bit, I'm about 270lbs, can you adjust the suspension for that too? Detailed answer would help please.
