How to negotiate for a car price?

I've been trying to sell my BMW privately but no one wants it. I'm thinking of calling used car dealerships where they have a car I want. I want to trade in my 2009 BMW 328xi(80k miles) for a 2009 Honda Civic around 100k miles or lower. I just want a more reliable car. Anyways on blue book it says my trade in value is around 5k. The Honda I want is priced around 6 to 7k on blue book. How can I negotiate to get the car. There's a couple of used dealerships that have the Honda I want. I wouldn't mind leasing the remaing difference.

IF your current vehicle loan is paid in full, then you can go to any dealer you want to BUT no dealer will give you anywhere near what a "blue book" says it's worth

Umm… You go to the dealership and tell them you want to buy the Honda using your BMW for a trade-in. They are not going to "lease" you the remaining amount, but they may finance it for you.

Are you saying you want to talk the civic down to the price of a your junky BMW, so you don't have to outlay any cash?
Why would a dealer do that?

Also, the top of the line Honda Civic with 100K miles is worth $5100 private party. Why would you consider buying from a dealer?

  • Why does insurance price matter if the car isn't full coverage? I don't understand why my insurance on my 2016 Honda hire than my 2002 Honda. Both cars or only liability coverage. I own both. I don't understand.
  • Motorcycle dealer does not want to negotiate? Should I pass? Trying to buy a 2015 honda pcx150. I've called 2 dealers who both only want me to pay full MSRP + TTL + Fees. Why are they so reluctant to negotiate? I'm a cash buyer. What is their problem? Should I just pass and maybe wait until the winter starts to hit and maybe then they would be more willing to negotiate?
  • How can I negotiate a 2 year old car model? I'm in the market to buy a new car but I saw the new 2018 Honda Fit are out. I also saw the dealership had a 2016 Honda Fit LX, it is priced at 16k. If a new 2018 Honda Fit with Honda sensing standard starts at 16k, how much should I even get a 2016 base model with no Honda sensing? I know 16k for a 2 year old Model is crazy but what's the lowest can I negotiate for? 10k? 12k?
  • Can a car dealership change the price of a car? There's a 2016 Honda Civic couple that is 19,650. I saw that the msrp was the same price. But this car is two years old already. Can they change the price?
