How to remove a stuck tie rod in the steering knuckle?

99 Honda Civic LX- I've hammered it, I've heated it, I even went and got a pickle fork and used that. I have no idea of what else to do

Added (1). Seperator = Pickle fork just a different name for it.
I'm using a 5lb mini sledge

Bigger hammer. Your not hitting sharp enough. Its the shock that pops them out.

With the fork firmly locked in you might try heat at that point Also have someone else hold a good size hammer just opposite the fork to keep the arm from absorbing the shock.

Get a separator. Its a tapered fork.

TAKE THE NUT OFF FIRST. And it's keeper. Then a BFH, its a special Ford tool used for stubborn parts, they come in a set LFH MFH and BFH
Since you are replacing it at this point anyway, and arent using a tie rod removal tool (harbor freight) hit the part where the nut came off and it will come out. Or put the nut upside down reinatalled, enough to protect the threads.

There's a tool that hooks on the knuckle and has a threaded rod with a special end that is cupped and spins that when tightened pops the tie rod end out. Guess what they call it. A tie rod removal tool!

Use two large hammers. The 5 lb is large enough. Hold one against the steering knuckle as a backer. Strike the other side with the second hammer. Usually takes about three solid strikes to get it to pop out.

  • Where do i get rod bearings for a 1997 Prelude SH? I have a 1997 Honda Prelude Type SH, however the 1997 had 50mm rod journals as opposed to the 1998-2001 which had 55mm journals. Everywhere I've gone to or called has told me the bearings from 1997 to 2001 are all the same, which is not true. I have proof of the old bearings in my hands. I've tried Napa, Autozone, Oriellys, Jegs. I even called ACL and Clevite/Mahle and they still all believe the bearings are the same. Where do I get bearings for this car of mine.
  • Rod knock or bad oil pump? On cold start car sounds like it knocks for about 2 seconds then goes away. It drives fine and idles fine. How do I test the oil pump or the pistons? No taking it to the mechanic I can't afford that. I just want to make sure what it is before I mess up the car or change random parts. Thanks Bad oil pump or rod knock b18b1 Gsr b18c1 Honda
  • How to tie lumber to the roof of my car? I have a honda odyssey, which is about 16 feet, 10 inches long. I want to transport 2 pieces of 16 foot long, 2" x 12" lumber. What is the safest way to secure these to the roof of my car? I can take back roads to and from the lumber storage place, so I will drive very slowly.
