How to set cruise control in an '08 Honda Civic?
I've never used cruise control before but I'll need it Monday as I have a long trip ahead. Do I just hit the accelerator to my desired speed and then hit the cruise button?
Piece a cake. Yes, just get to your operating speed and push the button. Tap on the brake to turn it off, no need to actually brake, just a slight tap will do the trick. Don't get all nervous either, ts easy
In your vehicle all of your cruise control options or on your steering wheel on the right hand side. They consist of:
-CRUISE
-RES/ACCEL (resume/accelerate)
-SET/DECEL (set/decelerate)
-CANCEL
Lets talk about each option.
CRUISE; this turns the electronic module on. It must be on for you to use the other controls
CANCEL; cancels cruise control and removes your set speed from the cars memory. Braking or tapping your brake pedal will release the cruise control as well but will store the set speed in the cars memory (see RES/ACCEL)
SET/DECEL; Once at your desired speed a single press will lock that speed. While the car is locked at a certain speed pressing again will incrementally lower the speed of the vehicle. Pressing and holding will slow the vehicle down until you release your finger then resume at the speed you released at.
RES/ACCEL; If you have to brake your set speed is in the cars memory. Pressing once will cause the vehicle to resume its previously set speed. While travelling with cruise set pressing once will incrementally increase the speed of the vehicle. Pressing and holding will accelerate the vehicle until you release your finger then resume at the speed you released at.
While driving with cruise control you can accelerate using the gas pedal without cancelling your cruise or set speed. Once you release the vehicle will slow back to the set speed and continue at the set speed.
If you have to brake and want to resume your set speed accelerate to that speed using the gas pedal before pressing RES. Pressing RES at a low speed can cause the vehicle to accelerate very quickly to get to your set speed As soon as possible.
Don't worry about hitting an exact speed before hitting SET. Once you have a set speed you can use the ACCEL and DECEL buttons to fine tune it.
- What is the maximum speed my car and cruise at in terms of rpms for an indefinite period of time without risking problems? My car is a 2003 Honda Element with 4wd automatic. The car has 160 hp with 161 ft lbs of torque. It redlines at 6500 rpms. At want maximum RPM can this car sit at and still last me 300,000 to 400,000 miles? Can it cruise 4,000 rpms with no problems and still last me up to 300,000 - 400,000 miles or chances are it won't and it would overheat?
- How to set a 2000 Honda CR-V to TDC? I have a 2000 Honda CR-V and I need to set it to Top Dead Center. When I rotate the Crankshaft pulley there are two small holes on it. I think this is meant to align to TDC but I don't see any corresponding marks elsewhere. So if anyone has done this on this car before your advise would be greatly appreciated.
