I Have a 2000 honda Civic Hatchback That Revs high?
I notice this happens when i'm in heavy traffic just sitting there or going 10- 15 miles per hour then coming back to full stop and it is a warm 80-85 or a little hotter. I notice when either idled or stopped it revs high. It doesn't do it at first but if I happen to be stopped or not going full speed for amount of time then i notice it will Rev higher. But then when I start going 40 or higher in speed then is ok.
Any help on this would be nice.
The throttle cable might be sticking or the Throttle Body (TB) plate gum-up and in need of cleaning. Does the car has any performance problem? Look at this video:
If not then try to adjust the throttle cable and lubricate it first. I've found a product called "Cable Life" spray lubricant and it works quite well, these two links will show you:

If that doesn't improve the throttle response or it's still sticking, then the only correct solution is to replace the throttle cable. It's cheap and will take any DIY less than an hour to replace it, make sure the cable application is right for the car/ engine:

Go to http://www.hondahookup.com/
Create an account (Free) there and once logged in, go to the tab on the left side of the page labeled navigation and click on the link for Civic factory repair/ service manuals.
You will find nearly every factory Honda Helms manual there in.PDF format. You can download to your PC and open/read with Adobe reader. The manual will show you how to repair almost anything.
Hope it help and E-mail if you have more question or need more help. HTH
Can I have more info on this?
Automatic? Could be something to do with your spark plugs or fuel pump. If its not passing 4k revs i wouldnt worr about it though
If it drives fine and your only problem is that it revs "higher", you don't have to worry about it. If it really bothers you, you might as well bleed your coolant while you are at it.
Open your hood and take off your radiator cap. Start your car. Turn your heater to the max on full blast. Fill your radiator with coolant til it is full. After a couple minutes for the car to warm up, rev your engine a little bit by the throttle body and continue to top off coolant til big bubbles stop coming out. Then once that is all done, put your radiator cap back on and turn off your blower. Look at your rpms. Then with a flat head screwdriver, above the throttle body, turn the screw til you get your rpms to 950 of so (stock tach is off).
- Honda magna v45 revs while driving? When in gear and driving my bike will rev really high while driving. Yes, as I'm driving along and I throttle hard the bike revs high and loses power.
- Honda CBR125 repsol. Switch on and revs go mad? Bike wasn't starting so changed spark plug and charged battery. Now she starts. BUT soon as you fire her up the revs goes full blast. Throttle isn't stuck i know that much, what else can it be?
- I have a Honda 1.4 sport 1999 reg and the revs keep going high but there's little power - any ideas? When i first start it its ok but after 15-20 minutes it starts to over rev and the power seems to drop. Any ideas on what could be causing it?
- Honda b18 CEL on and revs bounce? I was in the middle of changing my fan switch when Autozone gave me the wrong one. I broke the original I had during the process and decided to just put it back in with the plastic broken, add some radiator fluid, and call it a day. When I turned the car on it took a few seconds, and after it started the CEL light is on and the revs bounce by about 300? What's the issue?
