I would trust Honda to know their product. Check your owner's manual.

Transmission fluid should be changed according to the owners' manual. It is usually at 100,000 miles. Brake fluid does not need to be changed unless you do a a complete overhall.

Good for you to take a giant step forward in maintaining your car… Your doing the right thing by keeping the fluids fresh.

Sadly Honda is correct

Brake fluid absorbs water from the Atmosphere. This lowers the boiling point so becomes less effective. After a certain level this causes corrosion in the braking system.
Transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 5 years or 50000 miles whichever is sooner.
Proper maintenance gives a long lasting reliable car.

Your dad is certainly wrong about the brake fluid. It should be changed every two years or it becomes ineffective due to moisture absorption.

  • Which is the correct option to buy. Either Petrol Version or Diesel Version of Car? This is Sanjay, and staying in Chennai. I want to buy a car. Had 2 options in mind one with Swift Zxi and other with Honda Amaze S-MT (M). But am confused with which version to buy. Petrol or Diesel. With the current Price's and future hikes in fuel, which would be the correct option to buy. I will travel atleast 200-300 Km per month. Let me know any additional details if you need. This is my First Car.
  • Dealer told me it was a Honda Certified pre-owned car, but I never received anything from Honda saying so? What should i do? The car now needs repairs and the dealer lied to me about the certification. Do I have any rights?
