I took my Honda Civic off-roading. Did I cause any damage to my car?

So I accidentally took my 2012 Honda Civic on a off roading adventure the other day (don't ask, long story lol)

Drove through a shallow body of water about 1/2 foot deep and went up and down a moderately steep gravel road with lots of rocks for about a quarter of a mile or so. I didn't floor it or drive through any crazy rough terrain like over insanely huge rocks or potholes or anything, I drove as steady and conscientious as possible and got back on to the main road as soon as I could. In all it was a 15 minute off-road detour. My front license plate is bent a little from driving with low suspension and my car def needs a car wash but otherwise my car has been driving on the freeway for almost 100 miles since then smoothly with no issues.

Given the fact that I was driving fairly conservatively and for a comparatively short period of time I'm pretty sure the car is fine. But just thought I'd ask for a second opinion. Should I take the car in for an inspection on am I overthinking it?

Technically, you did NOT go "off road" -- you went "off pavement."

Gentle is good. I took my '72 Pinto up a jeep road -- got weird looks from the dirt bikers. Took the family over a "high clearance only" road -- on a '78 Ford LTD. Including fording a couple of creeks. I'm not only idiots -- on my dirt bike I saw four Jarheads in a full size sedan in sandy roads, one driving, on on the hood, two on the trunk leaning the rear window chugging beers.

You didn't hurt any.

You are overthinking. If the car drives fine, car is ok.

Perhaps I don't understand off roading.

It sounds like you were on a gravel shoulder or side road. If you are looking at the car and driving the car and YOU can't figure out if there's damage, how would strangers know?

  • Took my car in to Honda to be serviced? They told me they'll call me with the diagnosis of the problems at 3 pm. They called me and told me that they ran into timing issues and asked if it would be alright to keep my car overnight. I said okay after they told me they wouldn't charge me extra to keep it overnight. That they will call me in the morning with the diagnosis. Would it be overkill if I call and ask for an update?
  • My motorcycle won't start after i took off gas tank? Its a 95 honda shadow 1100. Cranks but won't start and when i turn the throttle while cranking it. The sound changes but still don't start
  • Accidentally drove in 2nd gear on highway with automatic. Did I cause any damage to my car? I didn't get much sleep so this morning I was little out of it. On my 15 minute commute to work I accidentally put my automatic car in 2nd gear instead of drive. I drove on the highway for 5 minutes going 60. I didn't notice until I got to work and realized that's why my car felt a little different while driving. It's a 2002 Honda crv. Could I have caused any long term damage?
  • Will it damage any part of a honda civic 2014 to do this? Put on jack stands take off wheels put the car in drive and run it until it has 150 miles of wheel spin in the air? Don't ask why its complicated. Ill turn off traction control
