If I get a turbo for my car, will it affect my fuel economy?
I'm thinking about getting a Honda Civic si and in time I was thinking about putting a turbo kit in it just to have more fun but how would it affect my gas mileage?
Adding a turbo should increase fuel economy. Turbos don't increase fuel consumption they just allow you to use the fuel you have more efficiently by burning exhaust.
A properly engineered turbo kit will include new larger injectors and fuel pump. Your fuel consumption will increase unless you can keep your foot out of the floor board, which you can't.
The whole point of getting a turbo is to improve performance. The turbo is just a device that uses exhaust gases to power a turbine which in turn brings in more air for more combustion which requires more fuel. If you are concerned about fuel consumption and don't go into boost to save fuel, you've just defeated the point of getting a turbo. And boosting the high compression and high hp per displacement K or B engine in your car works against the engine design. The internals will need to be strengthened, making this an expensive modification. You might as well tear down the engine and install some high performance parts. People on the forums are claiming the performance K engines can gain around 40 hp from relatively simple bolt ons. The stock Si engine is already decent for what it is.
Of course. You get more power from more fuel burnt. But this will be short lived if you just bolt it on You need the head machined to lower the CR.
No, of course not.
A device designed solely for the purposes of pulling more air, and fuel, through an engine would never damage fuel economy.
- What is the economy speed of cbr 150r (india)? Hi, recently my father bought me a new honda cbr 150r. I want to know at what speed can I get best mileage? I have to travel about 30 km everyday. So I want to get the best mileage it could give. So can you guys please tell me at what average speed should I drive my bike to get maximum mileage?
- Does the fuel tank size have any impact on fuel economy between vehicles? For example the new Honda Accords have a 56 Litre tank while the CRV has a 53 L and the Rogue a 55 L. Now the 2 latters are compact crossovers and are arguably bigger in size than the Accord, so would that mean they are using up more gas? Would that mean its better to buy the Accord if we were going based on just gas mileage?
- Planning to get a turbo kit for my 2002 honda civic ex with 140k on it i go for it or leave it alone? Is a 1250 dollar turbo kit from ebay. My friend is a mechanic so he would help me for cheap but is it really worth it? I already upgraded the exhaust and got a cold air intake. Also what other upgrades would i have to do if i go for it?
- If I remove my resonator will it affect my car's performance? I have a 2009 Honda civic si, and I put a 2 3/4 inch pipe starting from the catalytic converter all the way to the muffler so the resonator got removed, will it only affect the sound or did my car loose horse power or does it affect the performance in any kind of way?
