My car battery is either dying or dead every time I try to start it? Any

I have a 2005 Honda Civic Coupe, I love the car to death, and it is my first car. It is also a used car, I got it from a private owner earlier in October, and the car was working just fine just needed to be cleaned up a bit. However, now entering November every time I try to start the car the battery is either dying or dead. First my dad and I thought I might have left something on, but nothing was left on, and I'm very positive because I always check to see if my inside lights are on, if the headlights are on and such. So then we thought it was because I was not driving it as much and the battery got cold, but that doesn't make sense to me. True, I do not drive the car very often, I probably drive it once a week or a twice a week, but before we even purchased the car the owner and our mechanic said that the battery was good. I'm not sure how old the battery is, but I thought the battery should have been okay. My car doesn't have all those electronic features that newer cars have that would just drain the battery. My dad tried to charge the car with a car charger, but then it still didn't start. However, the dashboard lights, headlights, and radio lights were working though (but it was probably temporary). So I'm not sure what to do, my perfect car is now just sitting outside in the drive way and I have no idea how to bring it life again. Do you guys have any advice or any similar experiences?

Added (1). Another quick note about the battery, I'm not sure how old the battery is, but I would assume that the owner would have probably replaced the battery a few times in her life. I do not think it is a 12-year-old battery, batteries only last for a few years. But even the mechanics said that the battery that is currently in the car was good, so I do not know.

Hm

Your car is 12 years old. It wouldn't be unusual for it to need a battery.

If you go to any auto parts store, they have equipment to check the battery and alternator. If they are both good, next check the starter, then make sure all the connections are OK. If I had to guess, I would say you just need a new battery.

Sounds like your battery is simply dying or dead. Get it tested, and your charging system while you're at it. Cold weather often finishes off a battery that was on its last legs.

Replace the battery already. Check alternator output voltage.

Since you don't know a damn thing about cars charge your battery for 6 hours with a portable battery charger set to 12 volts, 10 amps. Then drive straight to an auto parts store where they will test the battery and the charging system for free.

Cold weather will let you know real fast if your batty is any good or not, they can die at any time and just because they checked it a few weeks ago doesn't mean its still good now. Take it out and take it to a auto parts and have them LOAD TEST it to see if its any good… Replacing it will most likely solve your problem,… They will load test it for free.

You can expect a brand new car battery to last between 5-7 years. After that, it will slowly fail, and the only real choice is to replace it.

2005 MAY STILL HAVE ORIGINAL BATTERY in it. Which is a very long time. Batteries(in my experience with past vehicles) the battery was good for 5 or 6 years. After that, it is dying to death.
. The reason I say it may still have the original is because I got a 2007 and still have the original battery in it and I expect it to die any time now.(I have been waiting since year 5 (now it is year 11).>it surprises me<

So even if you had the standard 5 year battery and say got 6 1/2 years out of it, then this would be the second battery at the end of its life.6 1/2+6 1/2=13yearsapprox. 2005+13=2018 Gee, right on time as expected. 2 months before 2018

Replace with NEW. Done. Batteries wear out.

The mechanic did not do a load test on the battery. He just did a voltage check. It has 12volts so all cells are good(not very strong for long) but all work. So alternator works… To charge the battery. The battery won't hold a BIG charge and you need a BIG charge because the starter take a BIG bite. Everything else in your car takes a little bit.

Replace the battery and you are good to go. Stock Honda battery@$100.(bought at an autoparts store like LORDCO OR NAPA
Never buy a battery from dealership as they double the price for the same battery.

Battery failure always shows up in the cool months. Change it yesterday.

  • 97 CBR 600 F3 shuts off every time I pull the clutch in? I have a 97 Honda Cbr 600 F3 that has been in the shop for 8 months every time I get it back the bike shuts off after 30 miles of riding it, it does this as soon as I pull in the clutch coming to a stop. That is until I lost compression in the motor and all but one cylinder stopped firing. Does anyone have any ideas as to what happened?
  • Every time I stop to get gas in my 2003 Honda element, it has trouble starting? My car recently had a completely new engine put in and now when I get gas it takes a few tries to get it started. So I put a new battery in and now I have to put my foot on the gas pedal while starting it for it to start. But it's only when I stop to get gas this happens. Every time other than that it starts just fine, no problem at all. Does anyone have any ideas what is going on?
  • Clunk every time I shift into reverse? I have a 2003 Acura RSX w/ 135000 miles. Every time I shift into reverse I hear a loud clunk I sometimes hear it but more faintly when it shifts to 2nd gear. The transmission shifts smoothly and I don't hear and grinding or any other abnormal sounds besides that clunk. What could the issue be? BTW honda/acura vehicles don't have ujoints since iv'e been told before it might be that.
