My car is making a strange sound, but only when it's in neutral. Just started last night?
Let me preface this with I have a very small knowledge of cars and how they work!
When my car is in neutral, it makes a rattling type sound, coming from somewhere under the hood I lifted the hood and it sounds like it's coming from the main engine area. Also, I was driving at a low speed, after I noticed the sound, and my car made a high pitched squealing noise that stopped after a couple seconds. Hasn't happened again. I don't remember if the car was in gear or not at that point.
I drive I 1996 Honda Civic LX! It eats a lot of oil, and has a couple sticky gears. Other than that I haven't experienced any issues with it in the two years I've owned it.
Please let me know if you have any idea what could be causing these strange sounds, so I can take the next steps to getting this issue taken care of!
High pitched squeals come from loose belts. Belts are most often loose because they are old and hardened. Have a mechanic look at your belts. That's free. If he says replace them, ask him to show you the signs of old age. All belts get replaced at the same time. It's just cheaper over time. Loose belts are also caused by a loose tension pulley, but rarely.
- My honda activa has started losing mileage just after 2 k km - what should I do/check? Initially my activa was giving around 40 km/lit, in city conditions, but since last 100 km the mileage has dropped down to @ 25km/lit; also if the engine is left idling the speed drops and then the engine stalls/stops. Could it be a dirty carburettor or/and something else. I have not changed the grade of fuel or the petrol pump station. Also this has come to notice since my last free service, done in June'14. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
- My engine light went on last night? I just had major work done last week, timing belt snapped caused value damage I had a new belt values, mechanic told me I have a new top half of my engine. I have a 12 month guarantee and I going to ask him tomorrow. I just wanted to know just for my curiosity why it would go on. I have 160, 000 miles on it 2005 Honda.
- I have a honda cbr954rr that I just purchased in used condition with only 3300 original miles. But I have noticed that it's somtimes? Hard to go into neutral. It just skip past neutral and go to second & it seems like the only way for me to go to neutral his if I shut the bike off. Even if I try to shift from 1st to neutral really slow it still jumps to second. I've tried to adjust the clutch but no help have anyone else experienced this problem any help will be appreciated
- Car is making a really soft hallow whistling sound, but only when idling Is this something that requires immediate attention? There's no performance issues but I'm wondering if it can snow ball into something worst. It's a 2004 honda civic 180, xxx miles
