Nissan Toyota or jeep? Off reader and family hauler?

I need a bigger vehicle, at the moment I have a 2 door Honda Civic and need 4 doors, ability to carry 5 people including my 3 year old son. And occasional off road. I had a tj 2doot wrangler before and loved it so I'm thinking a jku 4 door wrangler, Toyota 4 runner or Nissan Xterra. Gas milage isn't a concern as much as safety and reliability. Don't want to be in the shop a lot but want a good reliable vehicle that will last years
And is fun to drive.

I have seen Xterras with a lot of miles on them that still run great. Toyota also makes a reliable vehicle. I would stay away from Wranglers as the quality has dropped significantly in the engines used. If you want something bigger and more reliable than all these go with a Chevy Tahoe or GMC Yukon. The V8 engines in them are probably the cheapest to fix and most dependable engine with a lot of power and decent mileage on the market. Just my 2 cents.

Nissan and Toyota are pretty reliable cars. I have a Honda pilot myself, and that thing has been a really good SUV. Very space and fits 5 people comfortably. Then there's the third row seating that will let you carry another 3 more people if you needed to, which comes in handy on more then a few occasions. The Xterra are known to be top heavy and can roll over a lot easier then a runner or poilt. As far as the jeep goes. I would defiantly stay away from those. Every jpeerson that i know that has one of those, has had to take it to the shop almost 2-3 times a year for something breaking on them. They might look good, but they are a money pit in my opinion.

I'm in favor of a reader.

If you were able to tolerate how unreliable a Jeep is, even an Xterra would be an improvement. The 4Runner is the best overall vehicle; the early Xterra models were underpowered, had horrible gas mileage, and felt cheaply built.

Stay with Japanese brand.
