Is $2300 dollars for 2003 Honda Civic worth it?

I'm looking for a car to bring to school. The drive is about 400 to 600 miles. I found a 2003 Honda Civic on Craigslist and it has 115,000 miles on it. It's 4 wheel drive and has 4 cylinders. The owner described any damage to the car as "The driver's side view mirror semi-detached; power door locks nonfunctional. There's one large dent on the passenger rear that can definitely be banged out. There's minor wear and tear on the body as this is a car that has lived its life in Brooklyn. Photos of nicks and dents, as well as an area of peeling paint and the interior fabric imperfection" I'm not really concerned about the problem with the locks or the exterior, I'm more scared about ending up stuck in the middle of nowhere.

What is a good, safe first car for roughly $4,000 or less?

I'm looking to get my first car in about 2 months after having my license for a year and not having a car yet. I will finally have enough for a $4,000 car plus the cost of insurance/registration/fees/taxes. I'm looking for one that is for sure a safe one (which is my number 1 priority with being a new driver) and 2, that is decently reliable and should last a good 3-4 years, before I hope to be able to make enough working where I can afford a 1 or 2 year old Honda Civic (drive that one until it no longer is worth the cost of repairs).

I live in Wisconsin.

2013 Dodge dart 2012 Honda civic or Mazda 3?

Getting my first car this weekend. Interested in these three. I've read that the Dodge dart has had lots of problems in the year 2013. I want a good reliable car. Going for a manual too. Any advice what to go for?
