Why is a '93 Honda Civic cranking but not starting?

I'm trying to diagnose what's wrong with a '93 Honda Civic that had abruptly died in a driveway and would not start back up, although the starteris cranking.

I did some research and have figured it to be an compression, fuel or spark issue.

So far what I've done is listen to ensure the fuel pumping is engaging when turning the key. I've check sparkplug wires for an corrosion, cleans up the sparkplugs although I haven't checked the distance and checked if they spark. I've also cleaned the battery terminals, main leads and tighten them, and checked the voltage output with a multimeter. Lastly I've checked all fuses.

I have an OBD2 reader but I can't use it with the car being a '93 and having an OBD1, I couldn't check for fault codes.

The car apparently died, while in idle I'm assuming, in the a driveway and hadn't started back up. I have plenty of tools but no service manual for the car. This isn't my car so I don't know what maintenance has been done to it and when.

For the make and model of the car what are some ways of diagnosing and troubleshooting to narrow down the cause of the problem? I've read of spraying throttle body cleaner in somewhere and trying to start it, to see if it's a fuel system. What are some methods of checking the distributor cap, wires and sparkplugs to see if they are functioning? What are just some general troubleshooting methods for a problem like this?

I have a basic to intermediate understanding of automobiles but I need help.

2001 honda civic check engine light goes on then turns off?

I have a 2001 honda civic with high mileage. I just took it on for an oil change and put summer tires back on. A few days later the check engine light came on and then shut off and then came back on and goes on and off every few days. The car doesn't seem to be driving bad although it does seem to shake a little bit. What could this be?

Which car should I purchase? Used or new?

I'm looking into purchasing a car for my graduation. I have $18,000, and I'm 18 years old. The cars I'm interested are the 2014 honda civic coupe exl, this option I would be financing, as I do not have the full amount the car is ($23,000). Also I looked at a 2008 328i BMW that same certified dealership had for sale, it is $15,500. My question is which should I decide on? With the Honda Civic I would not be able to pay it off fully which would mean I would have a monthly note, the note would not be that high to my understanding, not over $200. But the BMW on the other hand I could fully pay off with my amount. I'm getting the insurance under my mother and have got quoted already so that won't be in issue. Actually the BMWs insurance rate was a little bit lower, due to the fact the civic is a coupe and the bmw is a sedan. What would you suggest me to go with? I've heard that BMWs can be quite expensive. Repairs and maintenance I have to keep in mind as well as it taking premium gas. The mileage 70,517. I've test drove both already. Which would be a better option in your opinion?
