Salt damage / rust on used car?
I'm interested in buying a used 2006 Honda Civic Si. However the car is from a snow state and I have heard about the damage the salt they use in snow states can cause to a car. However I didn't see any rust on the undercarriage or anywhere except for the rotors. The car has been out of snow for at least one year and it was only in Oklahoma for 5 years. Is this even enough time to cause any worry? Does the rust on the rotors mean that there could be later issues? Everything else looks clean including the paint. I'm worried that this car may turn out to cost me more money than it should.
Anyone have experience with this sort of issue or recommendations.
The rust on the rotors means it has not been driven lately. They are a cast iron and rust pretty fast but should come back to shiny as soon as ypu drive it and use the brakes
Sure, salt can cause a lot of damage to a car. But if they took care of it and washed it regularly it's probably fine. My car is 15 years old and I'm in a salt state. No major rust problems. Yes, the screws holding the rotors on often rust. I just replaced my rotors and it took a little effort to unscrew them, but it's fine. Humidity will also cause rust issues. Just keep up on the maintenance and wash it when it needs it (undercarriage too!)
- What happens if we use wurth rust remover spray on a car window rubber beading? I own a honda city, I put that on a honda othorised service centre about a problem with driver's side Window glass, it was not rising up properly, they used wurth rust off spray in the rubber beading, for smooth movement, but later after some days, the rubber is getting weaker and got cut
- Does shifting in an automatic damage the car? My car (Honda pilot 2011) has a 1/2/3 setting on the car and if I use that while driving will I damage anything? I typically use it when I'm driving for fun and shift it at red line and then shift it back into drive at the end of 3rd gear. My old car was a stick and I miss it but will it hurt the car besides the normal wear and tear?
- What damage is possible from a construction cone riding under the front portion under the car? I was traveling doing about 55 mph and could not swerve to avoid hitting a construction cone. It hit under my car and dragged until I could pull over and pry it loose. I could not see too well under the car. I have a Honda Fit
- Accidentally drove in 2nd gear on highway with automatic. Did I cause any damage to my car? I didn't get much sleep so this morning I was little out of it. On my 15 minute commute to work I accidentally put my automatic car in 2nd gear instead of drive. I drove on the highway for 5 minutes going 60. I didn't notice until I got to work and realized that's why my car felt a little different while driving. It's a 2002 Honda crv. Could I have caused any long term damage?
