Should I buy this car? - 1

2017 Nissan Altima 3.5 SL 20K miles $15k and clean title that I saw this in dealership, but is this a good car? It's quite reasonable for that submodel, and much cheaper than my 2014 Honda Civic LX that has been repo 2 years ago it was $17k and about same mileage like this.

No do not buy this unless you have the full cash price.
You had a car reproed 2 years ago which means your credit is shot and interest charges on finance will be astronomical.

Watch out for the transmission on the Nissan Altima.

Altimas have poor CVT transmissions. And better get some cash when buying. It is unlikely you will get financing.

Do you have the entire purchase price in cash?

Didn't think so. The answer is no either way.

That's over $7000 below clean retail book price on the car. It's enough under book-value for me to think there's something fishy about it.

My guess is that it has either been in a major accident (a carfax report may or may not catch it) or it's a wrecked-and-rebuilt car on a rebuilt-title. Either of those things will not only tank the value of a car, they can actually be a safety issue depending on how well the car was repaired. If the carfax is clean and you're serious about buying it, you'd DEFINITELY want a trusted shop to inspect that car very thoroughly before deciding to buy it.

If I'm wrong and the car is fine and the seller is just an idiot who is pricing the car way, way too low then it would be a really good buy IF you are either buying with cash or you can somehow obtain a loan without a phenomenally high interest rate (because a repo on your credit in the past couple of years is going to make getting a reasonable rate on a car loan extremely difficult).

You have already made one huge mistake by putting yourself in a situation where your 2014 Honda Civic had to be repossessed. Now here you are 2 years later with really bad credit contemplating making the same mistake all over again. DO NOT buy this or any other car even close to this price range. You need to buy the cheapest dependable car you can find. Wait another 5 years until your credit is cleaned up and then you may, and I say may, be able to afford a better car. I have driven beaters that got me from point A to point B and believe me it is much better than buying a car you can't afford. Use the brain God gave you and do not make the same mistake twice just because you want a nice car. Life is way too short to put yourself in a bad situation because of a car.

If you can afford it, sure

Altimas are fine. They usually don't last as long as other vehicles they get compared to. But if you had a repo 2 years ago then buying another car might not be in your best interest right now.

  • Should I buy a 2013 car with 100,000 mileage? May I ask for your advice? I found a used car registerd in 2013 at a very cheap price. The brand is excellent - we're talking about Honda, Nissan, Mercedes here. However, its mileage is 100,000. If you were in my situation, would you think it is worthwhile to buy? How long can that kind of car last?
