Should I buy this Hybrid car?
http://kpr.craigslist.org/cto/5017442006.html
Its a Manual 2004 honda Civic Hybrid. Has 260,000 miles. The owner says that it doesn't have any history of transmission issues.
The part that motivates me the most (besides the MPG)is that it has just gotten a new hybrid battery. Because I know those can get expensive.
I've read the reviews on this car and its great but I worry about it's 260,000 miles. So am looking for help. Thanks. Will go check it later.
Added (1). Am looking for a cross country car for great and smooth traveling. Then when the money comes around will see if I upgrade to a much newer car.
I would avoid it. That is Way too many miles. There's no telling how much life the engine has left in it. Hondas are great cars but you'd still be taking a big gamble as you don't know how it's been cared for.
VERY suspect. The question is, why would the seller just have spent $3,000 on a "new battery" pack and only be asking $3,700? I would definitely need to see the receipt for that repair before I'd consider it, in addition to an extensive and regular maintenance history. That said, I put over 300,000 miles on both of my Hondas and they were still running fine when I sold them.
Edit: it's also very suspicious that the owner claims it has no "history of transmission issues". Why would it? Hondas have extremely smooth and reliable manuals, more so even than most cars. It sounds like he's covering something up.
No way would I buy this car. Any car, no matter who made it, has reached the end of it's useful life when it goes over 200,000 miles. Keep looking, you do not want this money pit.
- Should I have a mechanic inspect the car I'm about to purchase (2009 honda civi hybrid - 52K miles)? It is at wheels and deals. I do not know if they check out the cars or allow inspections. I know nothing about cars. Should I have a shop inspect it? Or is it okay not to do since I'm buying from wheels and deals and the car has very low miles?
- Roughly how much could I get from selling my hybrid car with a dead hybrid battery? I have a 2007 Honda Civic Hybrid with about 175k miles. I'm the second owner and there's nothing else wrong with it besides the dead hybrid battery. The battery is very expensive to replace and it's honestly just more of a financially smart decision to sell it rather than spending about 2,000 on a new battery. I just want to know what is a decent price to let it go for considering the hybrid battery is dead ultimately making it useless until replaced.
- How to drive a honda civic hybrid car with out hybrid battery? Bought a car about 4 months ago and the battery is now dead. I check to make sure its not the normal battery and Auto Zone said it was fine. I'm sure its the hybrid battery but i don't have the money to pay 1,000 or more for a battery on a car i just spent money on. Is there a way you can drive this car without the hybrid battery? Or dose anyone know a place to get these batteries cheaper?
- How much does it cost to buy a new car and how to buy smart? I want to buy a 2014 Honda civic ex next year. The msrp is 21,880. My question is how much would the actual total cost of the car be with taxes, registration and fees, interest, etc? Also, tips and advice on how to negotiate and buy the car when I'm at the dealer would be greatly appreciated.
