Should I risk driving to work this Saturday?
I heard from someone that there's a chance of it snowing where I live this upcoming Saturday. I have a 2003 Honda Civic and I have no experience driving in neither snow nor ice. I can drive well in the rain, but have never driven in snow/ice. Should I risk driving to work or should I play it safe and stay home and call in (which means say I can't come into work)?
Several considerations here:
1. The predicted chance it will actually snow - not just hearsay from someone
2. How much snow might accumulate
3. What is the temperature leading up to the possible snow day - if it has been really cold, then the snow is more likely to stick to the roads; but if it has been above freezing during the day, a first small amount of snow most likely will not stick to the roads
4. How early in the day do you have to drive in to work and will it have snowed or frozen before then; ditto for what time you have to head home and what conditions might be
5. How well your town or county maintains the roads you would have to drive when it snows
6. How far you have to drive, as going a few miles at a slow speed is not that big a deal, but if you have a long commute it might not be worth it
7. Any chance your work place would close due to the bad road conditions?
I had a Civic at one point and with the front wheel drive it actually handled really well in the random snow days we had.
Yes you should drive to work. Only way your going to get good is to practice driving in snow is to just do it. Just remember take it slow like real slow at first. Don't make any sudden stops turns and if you skid steer the car in the direction of the skid not the opposite. If your car isn't equipped with abs brakes and you slide while braking pump your brakes in short bursts. If you have abs your brakes will try to push your foot pedal back (freaked me out when I triggered mine). But keep your foot planted your brakes are working. Make sure your car has good tires it can make all the difference. And make sure you try to clean the snow off your car before driving. Good luck and have fun! Oh and if it's straight ice no car is a match for driving in that so better call off if it's just ice.
- Looking into buying a used car. Which cars should I avoid and which cars should I pursue? I'm looking into the following Honda Civic years 2005-2010 Honda Fit years 2007-2010 Toyota Corolla years 2005-2010 Toyota Yaris years 2007-2010 Toyota Echo years 2005
- Is it worth it driving 2 hours to work? My uncle offered me a job that pays 18 bucks an hour. It's 2 hour away and I have to go threw tolls. I have a 95 honda civic and a motorcycle which I spend 40 bucks on gas to full the tank on the Car. I'm going to finish high school in a week in a half. If I get the job I have to work Tue-Saturday and 10 hours. Is it worth it or not.
- How many miles should you have on a new car before driving it on the highway? (60 mph or higher)? I just bought a 2019 Honda Civic LX yesterday and I'm wondering how many miles I should put on it before driving it on the highway. I've heard with new cars you should wait until it has a certain number of miles.
- Should i buy an oem honda part or is it worth the risk to buy aftermarket? I need a vehicle speed sensor for my 94 accord and i noticed aftermarket prices for this part are much cheaper but is it worth the risk or should I buy the "dorman" part?
