Should I sell my car or keep it?

I'm planning a move from Ohio to Florida & was going to sell my car. Some say I should just drive the car there. Would you drive a 2003 Honda Civic those 16 hours? Should I drive there or just buy a new car when I get there? Is the public transportation good?

Well you might want to get the new car and I always used the trans and it is not bad for the plan of the future.

If you have been driving it recently and are having no problems, drive it and sell it later. If the car has been having issues especially with overheating, sell it and fly.

Florida is a state… It is a big place
Some places in the state will have good public transaction and others will not
However, overall Florida is a state that most people drive cars.

As long as the car is well maintained, it should have no problem on the drive there.

16 hours isn't that long of a trip but it depends on the condition of your car. We don't know it's condition so can't tell you if it is a good idea to take it or not.

Public transportation isn't great in most Florida cities, but it depends where you go. Read and learn: https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/visitor-services/florida-transportation-how-to-get-around-without-a-car.html.

A rusty Ohio car won't be worth much in Florida.

Do you trust it for the long trip? Tires, belts & hoses all good?

You act as if 16 hours is a long time to drive a car. It isn't. Your car doesn't care if you drive it 500 miles a day or 500 miles a week, as long as it's properly maintained.

There's a third option. Amtrak runs a train called the Auto Train, from Lorton, VA to Sanford, FL, and your car rides on the train with you. Obviously, the cars are stories in rail carriages for cars only, and the people ride in passenger rail cars. The trains run once each day, in each direction, departing around 4 PM, and getting in by 10 AM the next day. I've ridden it twice, and it's the most comfortable way to cover all that distance.

Depending on where you are in Ohio, and thus, the distance between there and Lorton, and then the distance from your unstated final destination in Florida is from Sanford, this might be a useful way to make the trip down easier on you and your older car.

  • Should I sell my car and invest the money? I have 2 cars. A 2000 Mitsubishi Eclipse and an 2006 Honda S2000. I'm thinking of selling the Honda and getting 12-15k for it. Then investing that money. I have a friend who builds and flips houses. He said if I invest he'll give me a good return on it when they sell. I forgot the percentage he said, but it was higher than doing a cd or anything like that. I like my car, but I only drive that one once a week or so. Should I try and sell it and use it to make more money?
  • Should I sell my aging car? I'm currently own a 1997 Automatic Honda Prelude that I use as my daily driver. I've had it for about 2 years with no issues but I will be moving to the city for my sophomore year of college. I have saved enough money to buy myself a newer used car. Should I keep the car even if the repairs that will come later on will cost more than what its worth, or sell it for a used Nissan 350z?
  • I sell cars for 1800$ or less but the taxes are almost here could I sell this car for 3000$? It's a 2004 Suzuki Verona 159,000 miles Automatic It's in exelent condition no problems But do you think I'll get 3000$ for it? Most people usually want a honda or Toyota
  • I have a 2006 Honda Metropolitan, WHen cold it starts up but i have to keep revving it to keep it going? I have already replaced the battery, air filter, spark plug, did an oil change, got new gas, cleaned out the carb. Once it is warm i have no issues with it. It usually takes about 3 to 4 min of driving it to get it warm but once warm everything is fine with stopping and going.
