Should I trade in a car that gets 50mpg for a gas guzzling SUV?

I have a Honda Civic that gets incredible 50mpg on the freeway which I love since it doesn't need much gas and gets 600 miles to the tank. But I hate that the interior is cramped especially since I travel often and end up sleeping in my car. The rear seat folds down but there's still not enough room to sleep comfortably. Forget about 2 people sleeping in it. So I'm thinking about trading it in for an SUV with plenty of room that gets 20mpg.

So do you think I should do it or keep the 50mpg car?

Or you can sleep in a tent on the roof of your Honda. See link as an idea. Would be cheaper than the SUV if you're on a budget. Otherwise the SUV sounds more comfortable for sleeping.

If you can afford an SUV, you buy it. Otherwise, keep the Civic.

I would trade it if you think it would be better to have the other one

Teardrop trailer… You already have a car, so all you need is a bed that follows it around.

Yes troll.

Possibly not

I think you should keep the Honda Civic because its my ideal car as well. You can change the interior if you do not like its interior only. Moreover if your mind is attracted towards SUV then you should go for it.

If two people need to sleep in it and you keep it then you'll need two cars. So your combined mpg will be 25mpg for the two cars and you and your sleeping friend will have to travel and sleep separately. Still guzzling gas at that rate. You should think about your needs and choose the appropriate vehicle. If I slept in it regularly then I'd consider a 10mpg motorhome even. Maybe even at some point you need two different vehicles.

A $100 tent solves that cramped sleeping arrangement very quickly.

My Toyota Matrix also get great fuel economy and the beauty of its design is that both the rear seats AND the passenger front seat fold down to provide an almost perfectly flat surface. I've never tried it but I've thought of putting an air mattress in there and sleeping in the car if it ever becomes necessary.

Why a stupid gas guzzling SUV? Why don't you just buy a car with good space AND good fuel economy?

  • Which mini SUV is better for gas mileage and longevity? I have been looking at mini SUV's/crossovers and have narrowed down my choices to these 3: Nissan Rogue, Honda CR-V and Subaru Forester. Keep in mind that I'm not buying a brand new one from the year 2014 or 2013. I'm looking at the years 2010 - 2012. So which is the overall better choice?
  • Toyota SUV or Honda SUV? Highlander, rav4 and crv? I have narrowed it down to these 3 SUV Toyota highlander Toyota rav4 Honda crv I need a SUV that is good on gas ( 20 mpg of more preffered) very reliable as in will last forever of at least. A very long time with little problems and won't break down often. I know the highlander is bigger of the 3 and because of its size equals slightly less mpg. What does both toyota and honda have for reputations? Are they reliable and good vehicles? Opinions on these makes and models?
