Engine on my 2009 honda civic blew and mechanic advised it could be upwards of 3,500 to repair?
Mechanic advised it could be upwards of 3,500 to repair and said that it wasn't worth it to repair engine. However i still owe approx. $7000 on finance loan. What are my options my job requires me to have vehicle for work!
How many miles and how do you know its blown. Iy might be them scamming you. Does the car start? Have you oil changed every 5000 miles? It might be an easy fix. Take it to another place if you can and see what they say. You might get a different answer.
Junk it if you can refinance by transferring the loan,
Or repair it if the book value is still high. Not really much of a choice.
If you intend to keep the car for five or more years go with the new engine.
But, get quotes from a Dealer's repair shop and a shop that specializes in engine replacements.
Double check your insurance policy, including home owners. I once had an engine go, and the insurance agent had a totaled wreck with an intact engine that I purchased as 'junk' which was less than half the rebuilt costs. Mechanic swapped the engines and Scraped the body of the wreck.
And finally, what caused the engine to fail, maybe the dealer has a recall.
If the engine is really blown, you'll have to borrow the money to have it replaced. Or buy a different vehicle and have two car payments. There's no way to get out of the first loan.
Honda Civic. Please capitalize the proper names of brands of cars and of models of car. May I ask, why are writing to us here for? It seems logical to me to spend $3,500 for a new engine than to have no car and a $7,000 debt to pay. Did you get a second opinion? You did not tell how the engine failed, what were the circumstances. Honda engines are known to be bullet proof with proper service, use and care.
It has 204,000 kms ih ad beed keeping up with oil changes however approx 2 yrs ago no oil indicator had gone off and my car was making noise so i checked oil and it was pretty low i had to add about 3 litres… A few months later while have the brake pads replaced at dealership the mechanic Mentioned that the sound the engine was making wasn't good however there was no followup on that on my end. Fast track the past two years and i have consistantly been putting in 2 litres of oil into my engine on a WEEKLY basis as it burns that quickly- no exhaust issues no leakage. Mechanic mentioned a cylinder failure however says really doesn't know exactly what the problem is. The car turns on and runs however you can't get any acceleration max 25 km/h. Excuse my ignorance in this type of scenario this is the only car i have ever owned bought in 2010 used with 20,000 km.
- Should I have a mechanic inspect the car I'm about to purchase (2009 honda civi hybrid - 52K miles)? It is at wheels and deals. I do not know if they check out the cars or allow inspections. I know nothing about cars. Should I have a shop inspect it? Or is it okay not to do since I'm buying from wheels and deals and the car has very low miles?
- Mechanic said he rebuilt the engine, smoke coming out of engine, could it be the grease burning off? The mechanic said he rebuilt the engine to my 1974 Honda CB550 I bought from him. Said he rebuilt the engine and is in perfect running condition. He has many bikes lying around and seems as if he is a hobbyist for bikes. He told me that he basically greased up a lot of parts of the motor and it is burning the grease off. The next oil change I do should remove the excess grease.

- Is the 1985 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft compatible with the 86-2001 Honda CR 500 water pump gear shaft? I have a 1985 CR 500 and the water pump gear shaft broke. It has been discontinued from Honda, and no one else has it. It is a metal gear. The one's for the 1986-2001 CR 500 are plastic. If I have to use plastic, I will. However, I prefer not to. If anyone knows where I can get the OEM 1985 Honda CR 500 gear shaft, I would forever be grateful.
