Too many Kilometers on a 2004 Honda Civic?
I'm looking at one listed for $3500, but it has 221000 Kilometers on it(Approx 137000 Miles.
Worthy purchase for a first car, or no?
Added (1). Comes inspected, no rust, looks like it's in excellent condition from the pictures I've seen.
Added (2).

First, look up the real world value via www.kbb.com and www.nadaguides.com. Second, you MUST have this vehicle inspected by a certified mechanic. A compression test on the engine should be included. Third, look at the service records from previous owners. If you do not have access to previous owners, copy down the VIN number and visit a Honda dealership service department and ask to see the service history back when the car was new and under warranty. You are looking to see if the car was serviced properly for the first 50K of it's life and if it's been in for any repeated issues.
If the car checks out, no reason not to buy it. If it's got stories or things don't add up, find another Honda Civic. There's millions of em out there.
Worth getting it checked by a mechanic at least.
If it's been well maintained it could do a lot more kms yet.
At that price range you are going to have to compromise a bit. The car is going to be older, higher ks, or have issues. Trick is to find one that's still in good condition. Lots of Civics get over 300,000 ks
I can only speak for the UK but have to say that a car like that with those miles would be worth something less than the equivalent of $1200 here so that sounds way too expensive.
Which 2004 Honda Civic? There were 4 trim lines available plus many options. Depending on how it's equipped the price could vary by as much as $2,000.
As a rule of thumb a Honda civic will run close to 300k miles that being said - examine the car for rust, I'm not talking surface rust - I'm talking thick flaking rust around mounts, exhaust, strut towers, brake components, etc. Civics will generally rust out before they stop running. Wad up a paper towel and dip one end into the oil fill opening (top of crankcase) and see what comes up on the towel - black and chunky or gooey is likely some sludge, dark or light oil - you are good to go.
I would go for it. Hondas run a very very long time and that's not expensive at all for a car with only 137k
A honda will run a very long time if you treat it right. Mine had over 269k on it before i sold it and id still have it if i had the money at that point to fix it.
- How many years from the year the motorcycle was built should you hold onto it before the parts become too expensive For example I was interested in buying a 2006 Honda CBR600f4i until I looked up the price of the fairing pieces. Just a small piece of the fairing was over $600. Of course they charge that price because they want you to buy a new motorcycle.
- Honda Innova 125 cc: Every how many kilometers must I change its oil and its sparkplug? I have bought a used honda innova 125 cc model 2003 with 13.300 kilometers. What kind of oil must I use?
- How many miles will a 2004 Honda CR-V last, of it was maintained well and not driven hard? I was given a 2004 Honda CR-V by an elderly woman. It has 225K miles and she was the only owner, with no accidents.
- What is a good mileage to look for in a Honda Civic, Scion xB, and Toyota Prius to be used for a few years without too many problems? I'm looking at the above mentioned cars to be used for 1-3 years, but I do not know the mileage to look for. I d like to know the milage lifetime for each car mentioned, and approximately at how many miles the car will survive without having consistent problems. If you could give me the answer for each kind of car, or even one of them it would be greatly appreciated.
