Trying to decide between these two cars? Insurance?

1995 Honda Civic EX Coupe (automatic) for $2000
-123K miles
-salvage title

or

2000 Chevy Prizm 4dr (automatic) for $1800
-147K miles
-clean title
-was told it has a Corolla engine

Have seen the Honda, seeing the Chevy today. The car will be entirely my purchase, though my mother will be using it exclusively for a few months because of my father's work setup. After these months it'll be all mine, along with the insurance payments to cover the car for $50,000 per accident.
I'm 19, female, and a first-time driver. Any rough estimates on my potential insurance premium would be greatly appreciated. Father will be asking his insurer soon for an exact quote, but I'd like know know at least a little on what to expect.

Since it makes no financial sense to carry anything but liability insurance on a $2000 car, the insurance premium cost for either car will be likely be about the same. Unfortunately I can't give you even a rough estimate on the actual premium cost because premiums vary widely based on where the car/driver is located.

As for the Corolla-engined Prism thing, that's true because the Prism and Corolla were sister cars and share the same mechanical components. Just to be clear, know that the Prism you're looking at has the engine it does because it came that way from the factory and NOT because it was replaced with one from a Corolla.

It depends on where you live, and what other insurance policies your parents have with that company.
it'll be between $500 a year and $7000
but that's just a guess.

Make not of the VIN for each of the vehicles. Call an insure agent and give them the VINs. They will be able to give you an exact quote on coverage costs within 5 minutes.

Go to geico.com or progressive.com or call in independent insurance agent and get a quote. There are lots of different factors that go into the price of insurance. If the car is titled in your name then the insurance must be in your name, you can't ride on your parents policy.
