What are mechanics perception of paying $1200 repair for a Honda Civic LX 2004 model?

If someone is willing to pay that much to fix their car, there are mechanics who are willing to do the work. Mechanics see a lot of people who love their cars and want them to be in good working order.

People hold on to old cars for lots of reasons. As long as the customer is able to pay for the work, there's no reason for the mechanic to question WHY.

Perception is personal. At the end of the day, what keeps a roof over the head of a mechanic and the shop open are people paying for repairs on their vehicles.

If a person wants to spend a grand to keep a 15 year old vehicle running, that's up to that person. It's not for the mechanic to judge…

My perception as a mechanic is: A car is trasportation, that is the primary goal. If spending $1200 to potentially drive a year is $100 a month worth it? Does that make financial sense or not? Will the car serve you long enough to recoup your investment? How many miles will you get? What is your total cost per mile you spend to get where you need to be? The opinion," but this car is only worth" only applies if you are investing in cars to turn a profit selling it today at current value. Investing in a car to go places the real question is simply how far can you go on your dollar. People confuse the cars value with the value of it serving it's purpose, two different things.

Bc mechanics need to make a living as well.
