What car will last me longer? Mazda 6 '08 vs Honda Civic 06?
I currently have a Honda 06 with about 104,000 miles on it and my mom said I can either keep my Honda or take her Mazda 6 with around 76,000 miles on it which she bought brand new in '08. I know that the Mazda has less mileage and is newer, but I hear that Hondas will last forever. I want my car to last me for at least a couple more years. I'm only using it to drive to my school which is 2 mins away for the next two years then I want it to last maybe a year or two after to get me to my job 10 mins away. What car is a better choice for the long run?
Just go to your Mom and kiss her for being such an outstanding loving parent.
MY Civics rusted out before they were 8 years old (I've had 4, all had similar problems, each under 120,000 miles). Mechanically, only had to replace the clutch on 1, and the transmission on 1, engine on 1, when the timing belt broke. Some newer models have chains, and won't have the problem).
My Mazda is over 15, with 250,000 miles and is only starting to show signs of rust. No major expenses. Only odd thing, minor expense, was the door jamb seals needed to be replaced a few years ago. Mechanically, no problems. The timing belt broke, but due to its design, no problems after the belt was replaced.
The downsides with Mazda is rust. Honda has largely fixed it's rust issues by the 2006 model year. Mazda didn't get serious about dealing with rust until maybe 5 years ago. I'd go with the Mazda as it has better overall quality control and is more fun to drive. Honda quality control for most of its lineup has dropped off a cliff since the 90s, especially the Civic. The Civic has also been decontented, with features like double wishbone suspension gone. They last long enough, but no longer forever.
- Mazda reliability? Particularly 2013 mazda 3? I'm in the market for a new car and I was looking between 2013 Toyota corolla which is just boring and doesn't have as much features compared to Honda, or mazda. The Mazda 3 is at a good price 1000 dollars cheaper then the Toyota. So my question is, is Mazda reliable for that generation, or should I stick with a very well known reliable car maker?
- What could be wrong with a 2005 Honda Civic while driving no longer went forward or reverse? Transmission oil was full when checked Transmission is good as well Transmission oil was changed and filter Does rev up and there's some type of noise
- What car is better and will last longer? Mazda 6 '08 vs Honda Civic '06? I currently have a Honda 06 with about 104,000 miles on it and my mom said I can either keep my Honda or take her Mazda 6 with around 80,000 miles on it. Now I know that the Mazda has less mileage but I hear that Hondas will last forever. I want my car to last me for at least a couple more years maybe 10 if I'm lucky. I don't drive far at all either. What car is a better choice for the long run?
- Honda replaced my serpentine belt but my car is now taking longer to crank? Honda recently replaced my serpentine belt (2012 Honda Civic, 185k miles). I noticed that on cold starts, the car takes longer to crank and then eventually starts. Sounds like it doesn't want to start but then does. I will take it to Honda but I'm just curious what this is likely caused by? Loose belt? Tight belt? Pulley issue? No noticeable squealing, just the crank time. Instead of the usual 1-3 seconds, now my car takes about 3-5.
