What could be making my brakes grind and thump?
I got new front brakes (pads & rotors) on my 2002 Honda Civic last December. About 6 months later they developed a grinding, thumping noise when lightly applying the brakes. I took it back and the garage did something lubrication and it was okay until last week and the noise returned. Still under warranty, the garage replaced the pads and rotors. I hadn't even reached home when they started with the noise again.
I suggest that you return to the shop and ask the mechanic to drive with you well you drive and point out the noise so that they'll know what you're talkin about.
Maybe you should get a mechanic to check it out
The back brakes are drums? If the front pads and rotors are brand new, there can't be anything wrong up front. If everything is ok on the back brakes, the noise you describe as grinding and bumping must be the new pads against the new rotors. The pads will undergo some re-shaping to conform to the rotors.
- What else could could be wrong? My stereo in my 2002 Honda civic la sedan wasn't working right so I had a friend check it out. Be got it so my stereo would work but now the a.c stopped working. When you try to use it the fans turn on for a second then automatically switch off. The mechanic shop said I need to change the control panel but I don't want to get a replacement then this isn't the issue. Is this all I can do to really know. What else could it be?
- Steering wheel and brakes got still when I turned the car on? I drive a 2008 Honda Civic with 240k on it, today, I parked my car, put her in park and shut her off. I got back in later on, started her up and put her in reverse. When I tried to back out the steering wheel almost wouldn't move and the brake was the same way. I put her back in park, shut her off, turned her back on and everything was good. I have all new parts on it, or just about, and this is the first time it's happened as far as I know. Any advice on what this could be?
- Why does my Honda Accord 2004 kind of grind while turning on? 127k miles? Whenever I turn on my car it kind of grinds in the way that it kind of like screeches grinds in a way nothing bad with the car though no lights come on or anything.
- Transmission grind in 1-3 gear at low rpm's? I drive a 1992 Honda Accord EX. I Hit a speed bump a little too fast and hit the ground really hard. (the car is lowered about 4- inches from stock). Now when I shift in 1st through 3rd gear there's a grinding noise coming from the left side and you can feel it too, but when I'm above 2 rpms the grinding stops. I know my car might be ****** at this point, but I want to know the exact problem so that I can possibly fix it or know if I should get rid of the car.
