What is the best car for a college student?

My current car is my dads old Hyundai Tucson 2005, now that I have the money I'm looking for a new better looking car but still reliable and good in snow.
current options are: 2014 scion Tc / 2014 Honda civic or 2014 KIA forte koup. Tell me which one you think is better.

None of the 3 cars you list are not that great in snow as they sit low to the ground. A Honda Accord is much better and is a very dependable car that goes good in the snow. A Mazda 6 is also a good choice.

1. Nissan Versa
MSRP: $10,710
EPA Mileage: 29 MPG

Why? Economics majors love the Nissan Versa sedan, whose bare-bones styling and modest amenities make it an economical choice for today's college student. The sedan has 14 ³ wheels and a 1.6 liter engine.
According to Nissan's website, the Versa Hatchback offers more than you would expect from its small cost, including AM/FM/CD audio system, auxiliary audio input jack, power windows and door locks, dual power body-color outside mirrors, rear intermittent windshield wiper with washer, and Vehicle Dynamic Control with Traction Control System.
The Versa offers a modest sticker price, a 3-year/36,000-mile limited vehicle coverage warranty, and a 5-year/60,000-mile limited power train coverage warranty, making this a smart choice for the financially conscious college student.

Any car would be good for a college student. If they went to high school not too fat from college, they could still use their cars that used to be their parents (which are hand-me-downs) to save money instead of just buying a new car.

Your Tuscon is already better in the snow. Colleges are tough on vehicles. Dings, scratches, dents, drunks, vandals…

Buying a new car and paying full coverage makes zero sense to me.

I live in a college town, have had numerous dings and dents while parked, one mirror kicked off, one motorcycle kicked over, one motorcycle run over, one motorcycle stolen, one car broken into… I wouldn't even think of buying a nice/new vehicle unless I had private, secure indoor parking at home and lived within walking distance of school/grocery/bars/etc.

I would go with the Honda, but really, whichever one you can afford. How do you have money for a brand new car as a college student?

Honda Civic

  • Buy a new car or pay off student loans? So I graduated college in December, and it's time to pay up those loans. But as much as I would love to not see the monthly bill for my loan coming to me anymore, I would really like to by a new car (Honda Civic Si). I have $25k save up in the bank, just enough to pay off that loan or to buy the car cash and have a bit left over… What would you recommend?
