What is wrong with my car? - 3

Ok so I drive a five speed 2002 Honda Civic lx. I was driving it one day and I couldn t get over 20 mph without the rpms shooting yo way high. So I pulled over and opened the hood and there was this little rubber housing, smaller than an apple. That had smoke coming from it and it smelled burnt and bad. There's some sort of metal part in the rubber housing but I'm not a car guy so i don't know what it is. Anyway, its lower to the ground and closer to the front, and it's across from this fan that s behind the front bumper. I can't for the life of me figure out what's wrong. There aren t any noises when I drive, I just have to feather the gas in a low gear or my rpms shoot up like crazy. I can't even drive it anymore. I jammed my finger in the rubber housing and it came out smelling like it did when o pulled over and there was smoke, and my finger was all black.

Take it to the car doctor…

I'm no car guy either and that's a pretty vague description but I'd guess you're looking at a bad cv joint, and yeah you need a mechanic

Idiots shouldn't be allowed to drive until they learn the minimum basics about cars, like being sure all the fluids are kept at the proper levels.

EPIC FAIL

Your transmission is slipping and junk. You need a rebuilt transmission.

A bad CV joint would not cause what you describe. What I can tell you is that anytime you see smoke it is time to seek professional help. Something is seriously wrong and may be dangerous from what you describe.

If it is manual transmission, sounds like your clutch is shot. The rubber boot you describe sounds like where throw out bearing arm passes thru bell housing.

Looks like you have to change clutch

Your clutch is burned out.

Sounds like it's a time for a new clutch.

  • What's wrong with my car's brake pedal? I noticed something a week after I bought this used Honda car (the dealer I trust a lot). It only happens when I'm driving very slow on a side street, when stopping at a stop sign… When I push down on the pedal, the pedal goes down but I hear and feel a slight click before I push it all the way down. So it happens halfway as I'm pressing on the brake. It stops perfect and no break issues. Any ideas what this is?
  • What's wrong with my car? I have an automatic honda accord 92. It just today like maybe 30 minutes ago started making this sound. It's when I change gears from park to reverse. Or park to drive. Or whatever gear. It sounds like the transmission is slapping the engine. It sounds like it is about to break. I've heard it's I need transmission fluid. What could this be?
  • What is wrong with my car? The 'S' light is on? My 91 Honda Accord has the 'S' light on and it is in a constant rev between 3 and 4, I drive the car in D4 gear, if I drive it like a stick and start in gear 1 the rev will go down when i switch to gear 2 but not when i switch to gear 3 or 4
  • What is wrong with my car's brakes? When I was driving my car today, I noticed that I was having trouble stopping. The car doesn't brake at all until the pedal is to the floor. The brakes seemed a little "soft" yesterday, but I didn't think anything of it. They were perfectly fine 2 days ago. I drive a 2000 Honda Accord with 2 disc and 2 drum brakes. I had my tires rotated 3 days ago. Could something have happened then?
