What should I expect when not taking my 2015 Honda Civic for an oil change?

Unfortunately, I've been really busy and haven't taken my car to get an oil change. The display message is saying that I'm passed due 500 miles. So far it's a brand new car and I'm at almost 7,000 miles. This weekend I have to drive from philly to Washington. Should I be concerned about my safety when driving on the highway because I didn't change my oil yet? The closest day available to change it was after this weekend coming up.

There's no safety issue. If the oil is dirty, your engine could run a little hotter, and the "dirt" in the oil will wear away your cylinder walls a bit, but you will not notice it for years. {But you are not treating your brand new care with TLC.}

You are fine. As long as this does not become a regular occurrence.

No. Nothing. Get it done when you can.

I'd be careful going too far past. Regular scheduled maintenance being skipped could be a reason for the dealer to void any warranty work.

Not worth worrying about… At only 7000 miles in the uk you are at least 5000 miles away from a service… And we use the same oil as you… My vans are 18000 and 24000 between oil changes… Audi have recently introduced a 2 year service interval… Just wish you americans caught up… The oil companies must be very happy

I let my LS3 go to 7K on the pure synthetic and the oil still comes out as clean as honey, That's my garage queen. It all depends on how hard you use the car and winter usage washes gas down the cylinders during choked or ECM warm-up. It's always best to change the oil in the fall and again in the spring if you drive the vehicle during the cold extreme winter startup months. I use conventional oil in my 95 Chev 350 cid truck and change it religiously at 3000 miles and at 2000 miles or return trip if I was towing a trailer under heavy load conditions.

Not sure, My uncle had an '88 Nissan Pick-up. When he sold it, it had 153,000 miles on it. It also had the original oil in the crankcase. He NEVER changed it and he never needed to add any.

But your Honda may not be built as well as the old Nissan pick-ups were.

Unfortunately people like you are the first to get upset when their new car doesn't run properly. Mechanics always recommend changing the oil and filter every 3,000 miles so tarnish doesn't build up in the cam advance actuators and solenoids. If you're going to continue being stupid and not take care of your investment at least run Mobil 1 synthetic oil and change it and the filter every 5,000 miles. I wouldn't drive another mile until the oil is changed. New cars should have the oil and filter changed in 2,000 miles so any contaminants that get flushed from the initial break in period is removed. Nice way to treat a new car dude! You're 5,000 miles over the mileage that I would have changed my oil and no doubt will make a mechanic some money once you ruin your vehicle. Look in the mirror and say hi to the idiot.

On your FIRST oil change you should have gotten it done… So bad! After that, it isn't as crucial. Get it done when you get home and take better care of your NEW car.
