What type of oil do I put in my 2006 Honda Civic Lx?

I Googled it and some people are saying 5w-20, some people say 5w-30, and others say 0w-20. Which one do I buy for my car? Also how much do I need? Will one of the big jugs be ok? I bought the car used and it didn't come with the owners manual.

From what I understand 5W-20 is the recommended grade from Honda. You can't go wrong if you use it.

However, 0W-20 is the same grade at running temperatures (20) but doesn't thicken as much in the cold (0W vs 5W). Therefore 0W-20 would be suitable alternative especially in cold weather.

5W-30 will be thicker at running temperatures than the 20 weight oils. But if you tend to reach a higher engine temperature (oil thins as it gets hotter) it may be better to use 0W-30, for an example of you live in Arizona and drive like a maniac. Thicker oil can also be a band aid fix for low oil pressure when the bearings wear out.

Any good quality fully synthetic 5-40 will be perfect, 0-20 and 5-30 are too light for an eleven year old car

Open the hood. It's written in big white letters on the filler cap. The big jugs will work fine, although a little messy without a funnel

5w-20 oil, 4.2 quarts.
