What would be more survivable? A head on crash between two tractor trailers? Or a head on crash between two cars (such as a Honda Civic)?

I sense your driving career will be short lived.

The cars. Tractors don't have the same features, and when you add a trailer to the mix, it just gets worse.

I went to an accident one night out on an interstate. 2 cars, head on, closing speed 130-140mph. A Chevy Cobalt and something Mazda. Both were less than 2 years old at the time. Both drivers survived the crash with very minor injuries, one had a broken arm and one was more cut up by flying glass than anything else. Both were wearing seatbelts, and both were drunk. The engine compartments of both vehicles were destroyed, clear back to the firewall. Both are transverse mounted engines, and this is the main thing that saves people now. In a direct frontal impact, the engine is designed to go down and under the car, not land in your lap. They also use "crumple zones", areas that are designed to deform and absorb some of the impact force as they do so.

I saw a tractor trailer accident on the same interstate but 3 states away. Vehicle 1 (striking vehicle) had been travelling at highway speed (55 in that state at that time) and topped a hill to see another semi with trailer stopped in the roadway. He ran straight into the back of the trailer. Bad enough, however he was also pulling a trailer. The cab of the truck was about 3 feet thick where it had been smashed between the two trailers.

Modern cars are as safe as they can possibly be while still being affordable (comparably) and efficient (more or less).

Of course the ability of people to do stupid stuff will always outpace the ability of engineers to keep them safe.

Doesn't matter. Head on accidents usually have a low survival rate

Hi speed makes a all the difference not the size of vehicle.

Cars, trucks weigh more ( bigger boom!).
