Why does my car squeal in reverse?
I'm looking at a 1999 honda civic lx with 190000 miles for $2100. It's a five speed and all in all its in pretty good shape. The only issues were when I was driving it, i couldn't hit the gas hard under 3000rpm, but after I got to 3000rpm I could punch it and it was fine. That's not what worried me. When I backed up i heard a very loud squealing. The guy selling it told me he just had the brakes done. What could it be?
I'd offer 1200 for it with that high of mileage anything can go wrong.
Don't buy some thing thats already breaking and then you gotta pay 1000 to a mechanic. Haha just hand him 1800 or 1600 and say this is all I have, point out to his face problems you see wrong and if he declines then walk away slowly let him think for a minute on it. Usualy they will stop u before you leave or wait till next day lol. But squealing when in reverse your in low gears so it could have a whining sound if you went very fast in reverse… But if it was squealing… Did you see the rpms was they normal? Its possible to of been a belt squall. Or maybe he is lieing to you and instead of he just changed the brakes maybe they haven't been changed and it only squeals sometimes cause they need changed out.
i'm actualy a bit concerned why you couldn't give it much gas below 3000rpm… Could be a sensor or more serious issues.
- Resistance when shifting from park to reverse? Automatic trans honda? There's resistance when shifting from park to reverse all the drive gears work fine shift good what could be the problem probably not the trans since when put In reverse it works fine help? It's hard basically to shift from park to reverse you have to fight it
- My 1999 manual honda prelude does not shift into 5th gear or reverse smoothly? My gears are smooth from 1-4 but then takes a lot of effort to go to 5th or reverse. Also when you get out of 5th or reverse it doesn't go straight into neutral like a normal manual car. They still work but it is very annoying that i have to push it into the gears and pull them out. What could the issue be? Transmission? Shift box? I plan on changing to a short throw shifter in the future.
- Can't get car in reverse? My car is a Honda CRV 2006 Diesel with manual gear box. suddenly I can't push the gear stick into reverse. I have tried pumping the clutch and driving in all other gears and so on, but there's like a wall blocking the stick from going into reverse position. Does anyone know what the problem is? Additional info: the clutch has been a problem for some days, smelling burnt rubber whenever I have been using it a lot. I would be so glad for any help, thank you!
- Clunk every time I shift into reverse? I have a 2003 Acura RSX w/ 135000 miles. Every time I shift into reverse I hear a loud clunk I sometimes hear it but more faintly when it shifts to 2nd gear. The transmission shifts smoothly and I don't hear and grinding or any other abnormal sounds besides that clunk. What could the issue be? BTW honda/acura vehicles don't have ujoints since iv'e been told before it might be that.
