Why is a Honda Civic always a car of ridicule in the US?
I often see these cars in memes. Some say its pretty fast in stock form and able to pick at some unsuspecting american fast cars and others say its the cheap choice of Asian home care employees. I'm getting mixed opinions so somebody anybody compare this car with the cars in the US?
Hondas with the VTEC engines driven correctly are very quick.
The issue in the US is driving standards and driver education are very poor.
Driving manual transmissions is not taught and there's no separate test and license or a manual in the US.
The 90s Civic (fifth generation) was ridiculed for being a ricer car. The newer generation Civic is much more respectable. Especially the SI and R models.
It's not except among a smallish segment of the population who are snobbish teens or gear heads into bigger displacement engines and American muscle. If it was really a car of ridicule they wouldn't have sold millions of them.
Main point of ridicule is the "Ricer" culture. Basically putting silly spoilers, body kits, loud exhausts and "TypeR" stickers on Mums old Honda Civic.
As a reliable compact car they are a great machine which is why Honda have sold millions of the over the years.
The Si models are a pretty quick hot hatch that surprises a lot of people. The latest Japanese Type R is a crazy 300hp beast. That's pretty insane for a compact car.

I've owned a couple of Civics. I have no US cars I would compare it to. My last one I used for pizza deliveries. 45 mpg, great get up and go, a breeze to whiz through city traffic, easy to turn around in tight spaces, the only draw back I had with mine is when the timing belt broke, which messed up the valves, Cost me $500 to get fixed and it always smoked a little after that, but still ran great.
Hi so are you a typical red neck as that would be the issue here. This car is sold in europe and considered to be one of the better makes. Small efficient engines goes like a rocket does not cost a lot to run. It is not a muscle car like a mustang.
- Why are those round type mufflers always mounted sideways? Those round can shaped mufflers are always mounted pointing slightly sideways. Why? And why are they only on certain cars such as hondas subarus mitsubishi evos and dodge neons
- If one or two ISP's ban a site and raise prices, can a new one rise up and compete? Why? Why not? What about Honda/Toyota? Or ' MCI & Sprint muscling AT&T aside? Anyone remember Nucor Steel? Each of those took advantage of very different situations, each with seemingly impossible odds. Thing is, they were all LEGALLY allowed to compete. How about here?
- Should I buy a brand new honda civic? Why or why not? I need a new car that is inexpensive, has full warranty, is reliable and I feel that's the best fit.
- Why do people always recommend hondas? When someone wants advice on a sports car to get why are there always people recommending honda. Do people realize it's fwd. i meant to add civics.
