Will Premium Gas 91 harm my engine if it can take 87 Regular?

At Costco this morning regular gas 87 ran out so I was forced to buy 91 premium (at regular price).

This is the first time my Nissan Rogue 2017 has gotten it. I had to get it because I was running out of fuel and such.

I have noticed a little better acceleration but is it bad for the engine? What is the difference anyways?

My friend said in his 2019 Civic Touring that Honda said since its almost a luxury car by it being the top of the line model its best to put in premium. He was saying his car is turbo charged.

A higher octane fuel will not harm your car.

It's ok a waste of money though

Truth be told, the difference between 87 and 91 in performance is negligible. It is not bad for your engine, just for your wallet.

It will not harm your car and will not give it any advantages.
Cars with a higher compression ratio may need it to avoid pre-detonation (also called 'pinking', 'pinging' and 'knocking' in various countries) by using a high octane fuel. Some premium fuel contains additives that may benefit high-performance engines. It has nothing to do with it being a luxury car or a normal car. For you, you would just be burning a little more money than you had to if you used full-price premium fuel.

Putting premium gasoline in your car will not harm it it will help you to put premium gasoline in your car once in awhile to help absorb the water that sets at the bottom of your gas tank so don't be afraid to purchase premium once in awhile just because your car can run 87%

Now you can only use 91 or higher forever and ever.

No but what is the point? You are just wasting money.

You did not notice an increase in acceleration, you imagined it

Your friend is also an idiot. Honda says 87, that's what it gets

No, but you won't get any special benefit for the extra money you paid.

Your terminology shows your ignorance.

… If it "CAN TAKE" 87 regular.

The fuel is "specified" in the owner's manual.
Use 87.

If you put some 91 in, the ECM (computer) will adjust the timing. Then when you use 87 again, the ECM will adjust again. It won't injure the engine. It just injures your wallet.

This gasoline octane subject is not well understood by untrained people.

Never mind what your friend said that Honda said. Read your owner's manual, or call Honda corporate engineering and talk to one of the engineers and see what he or she says.

  • Should I use regular gas or diesel? Yeah you know my boy Barry just put an alternator in my Honda Civic so that I can switch between using gas and diesel. Diesel is more expensive but he says it lasts longer. Which one will give me the best bang for my buck?
  • State Farm insurance premium went up? I had a 1995 Honda accord 4 door ex. I was paying $73 a month for insurance with state farm. My insurance was renewed and I bought a 2006 Hyundai Tiburon. I transferred insurance from the Honda to the Tiburon because I. Sold the Honda. Now I got a bill and my insurance is $110 I kept the same kind of insurance. No changes just a transfer. How is it an extra $40 a month? The insurance was renewed a month before this at the $73 a month rate. I don't understand.
