Would replacing the timing belt on a honda civic 2003 be a DIY job?
Would replacing the timing belt on a honda civic 2003 be a DIY job?
Depends how competent you are and if you have the correct tools.
If not has anyone a rough idea as to what it would cost if i had to pay a mechanic?
You can do it yourself but you need to know what you are doing (as a mistake can wreck your engine) and you would need the appropriate tools and OEM specs.
There are a few videos on youtube might be worth watching those to see if you are happy to do it
Most of it is within the abilities of most DIYers if they take their time and make sure they get it right. The tough part is breaking the crank bolt loose.
In my area it is in the $200-300 labor range; you can put your own zip code itnthe source for an actual estimate.
If you have to ask on YA and are not savvy enough to look up the answer or find a youtube vid about it, then I would say likely it is way to difficult for you to DIY.
Only if you have done it before or have lnowledge friend.
If you have to ask here… No!
Usually if a person has to ask they shouldn't try doing it.
If you have an air compressor and an oxyacetylene torch to get the crankshaft bolt loose watch a youtube video and see if you feel up for the challenge.

- I have a 2000 Honda Civic with 140,000 miles on it. Do you think the timing belt has been changed? I read somewhere that they are supposed to be changed at 105,000 miles, or seven years. My car has a lot more miles than that, and twice the age. Do you think the belt has been changed before? Or is it possible it's the original belt? Would the original have lasted this long?
