Can I tie a queen mattress down on top of my car?

This maybe a stupid question, but it's for the sake of not paying my fiancés step dad to haul a queen size mattress in a gas guzzling truck, but I own a 2004 Honda Crv and if it helps with any laws I live in Arizona. I want haul a queen size on top of my car. I have no rails on my car also. First of all is it legal for me to haul that size mattress on my car and if it is how would I tie it down? Thanks for any help. Just wanting to make my our move simple.

I'm not sure how you would tie that down securely. I do know you'd need the front tied down rather than the sides. Air under it would be disastrous. You also may not block any windows. The gas guzzling truck would be the better option

Hi so tie it on and run the risk of getting caught. Simple really.

There are no laws pertaining to the size of mattresses that can be hauled on a car only ones about carrying unsafe loads

Roll it up and slot it inside.
When on the roof the sir gets under them and they turn into a massive sail.
It tends to rip it off and damage the car and the matress.

I don't live in AZ but generally the laws require any cargo to be secure.

Your first thought will likely be to open each door window slightly and tie down the mattress that way. Since the CR-V has a tailgate, you could climb into the driver's seat that way ( because you can't open the door once the mattress is tied down ). The problem would be the lift of the mattress at the front while driving, as already mentioned. The second. Less obvious problem with this will be the potential damage to the window channel seals and the paint as the rope will need to be very tight to secure the mattress.

I suggest paying a little bit for fuel and using the truck.

The gas will be a lot cheaper than the lawsuit you get hit with after the mattress gets ripped off the top of your little car by the wind and it kills people in the vehicle behind you!

You can. See people doing it all the time.

Is it smart? No, it's not a smart or safe thing to do. It's way too easy for the mattress to fly off and cause an accident for which YOU would be at fault for not securing your load.

Find a better, more expensive alternative.
