I have a 2016 CRV AWD. How often do I change my oil?

I recently bought a 2016 Honda CRV AWD for my wife for her work in January and it had 16.8k on it when I bought it. According to the design of the car, I'm supposed to change the oil when the service reminder (wrench) light goes off. My wife because of her work has 24.8k on it now. I feel like I really need to change the oil, but the dealer is saying to wait until the oil life on the dash is between 15 and 20 percent. The oil life on the dash is currently at 30 percent. This goes against all my car common sense maintenance instincts. How often should I change it or do I just listen to my dealership because they know the car?

Changing the oil early will only hurt your wallet. If you can afford it, if it bothers you that much, then change the oil. They used to recommend every 3000 miles. Then they recommended every 5000 miles. Today they recommend anywhere from 7000 to 10000 miles.

Change the oil. 7500 miles is plenty.

You can change the oil whenever you like. I'd go 5,000 miles tops. Just reset the maintenance reminder using a scan tool, which any half decent tech should have. Oh change your tech too.

Quality Oil Purchased when it is on special and new Filter 10,000 miles By VW Bora says 15,000 Klm

You don't HAVE to change the oil before it is necessary but I'd simply do it now to set your mind at rest. Otherwise it appears the issue is going to go on bugging you. New oil and a filter isn't going to cost that much. And get the "reminder" reset.

Read the owner's manual and it will tell you the oil change interval by mileage and time. It will also tell you what oil to use.

Change regular motor oil every 3,000 miles or every 5,000 miles if using synthetic oil.
If you go by the damn reminder display you won't be getting 250,000 miles of use out of the motor.
All motors made by Honda have a common problem with the valves getting tight and they need adjusting every 60,000 miles.
make sure if the car is an automatic that you take it to the dealer every 60,000 miles to change the transmission ATF. CVT transmissions have been a problem and there's a better chance of you getting an extended warranty if you can prove the dealer has been changing the ATF.

You don't NEED to wait until the idiot light goes off. You can have your oil changed as often as you want. You just can't get the dealer to pay for it or do it for "FREE". You are welcome to take the car anywhere else to have an oil change done that YOU pay for.

READ the owner's manual that came with the car and service the car as the MANUFACTURER recommends… NOT the dealer.

I would change it now. Worst case scenario, you wasted some money. Even with synthetic oil, it isn't that expensive, especially compared to the cost of a new engine.

From page 455 of your owner's manual (see source): "Change the oil and filter in accordance with the maintenance message on the
information display*/multi-information display */i-MID" Fixed mile recommendations are obsolete; modern cars monitor operating conditions to give a much more intelligent interval. If you need to reset the oil life display the instructions are on pages 448-449.
