I need some advice on a horse trailer situation?

My dad has just bought a Honda CR-V. It can tow up to 2 tonnes. We're looking to buy a horse trailer but we're not sure about whether to get a single or double trailer. Could our car tow a double trailer with 2 15hh horses in it? Or if needs be, we would get a single one as we only have 1 horse anyway, but a double one would be more suitable but we don't mind.

Your rated towing capacity of the CR-V is LESS THAN 1-TON. 1500lbs, to be exact. That's only the weight of the trailer.

The problem of towing is two things:
- overheating and burning out your light-duty transmission
- burning your brakes and not being able to stop in time

Towing capacity is strictly based on your vehicle's ability to stop safely.
I would not recommend using the CR-V as a tow vehicle for horses.

You should be fine with a double horse trailer

Your crv will tow more… Just not legally or entirely safely… Example, I once towed a four ton tractor with a Hyundai i20… But anyway, find out how much the trailers weigh and add the weight of the horse, presumably around half a ton? Then see if it adds up and away you go!
