Which gas grade should I use for my new CRV?
I got my new 2014 Honda crv, which gas grade should I use currently, 87 or 89?
The user manual says use 87 or higher. I'm thinking maybe I should use 89 during break-in period? I feel i'm a little overconcerned?

Fuel recommendation: Unleaded gasoline with a pump octane number 87 or higher required
I would use 87 or higher. If you only require 87, you are wasting money buying anything rated higher if it costs more per gallon.
Just use regular. Higher octane doesn't do as much as you would think
I've ran 87 in my 2002 grand prix and i'm at 264k miles. You don't need to run anything higher than 87. 91+ is for engines like snowmobiles that can't take ethanol
89 is pointless cause cars don't require them anymore. Back in the day when gas prices were cheap 89 was considerable because it offered a middle ground. But now with gas so high what's the point in getting 89 when 93+ only cost like 10 cents more?
The type of fuel you use during the break in period doesn't matter. As long as it meets manufacture specs(so 87) you will be in the clear. The car is programmed to run with 87 octane so putting in anything higher will not gain any performance/efficiency unless there's a custom tune.
OR HIGHER means at LEAST 87, and nothing lower. You don't ever need to run any octane higher than 87.
Any gas octane higher than 87 is a waste of money.
What does it say in the owners manual?
Did you read it?
I have a 2014 CR-V, and originally I used regular (87 octane), but never found my engine to run smoothly on it. So as an experiment, I ran my tank down very low to the point where the light came on, and I filled up with plus (89 octane) and the engine runs much smoother. And I also got a 3.4 MPG increase surprisingly! So from then on, I've been using plus, and will never go back to regular! And I'm also a big believer in using name brand gasoline; I use BP, Sunoco and Shell.
Turn the radio off and listen to your car, does it ping under acceleration. If so then increase the octane, if not stay with 87.
