Does Dealer have to pay for Dry Rotted tires on a car bought brand new off the lot?

I was driving home today when my tire literally collapsed in on itself. The car was bought brand new off the lot of the honda dealership, its barely 1.5 years old. My tire light did come on but its going from winter to summer here so I figured I'd just needed to put air in them as usual. Should the dealer have to replace the tires on the car if they are in fact dry rotted? I'm pretty sure it is dry rot as it doesn't look like any flat I've ever had… Does Dealer have to pay for Dry Rotted tires on a car bought brand new off the lot - 1

Depends on the laws on consumer rights in your country, you could always do them the chance to pay up without taking them to court though, it's always better if people can resolve these things themselves rather than going to court.

They would here.

You're an idiot. That's what a tire looks like after you drive on it for a long time while ignoring how funny the car feels and the tire light clearly telling you there's a problem.

You have had the car for a year and a half, and apparently drove on the tire while it was severely under inflated. This cause damage to the sidewall. It is your responsibility to maintain your air pressure. You state yourself that you ignored the tire warning

The dealer is not responsible in any way for your tire

You destroyed that tire by driving on it while flat. That is not dry rot.

Look at the date code on the tire. Google to learn how to find it and read it. Unless the dealership swapped out the tires for old ones, that tire shouldn't be much older than your car.

That is caused by driving on a flat tire. The light is there fir a reason.
Tires do not dry rot in 18 months.
As others say check the date code on the tires to check.
It looks like you got a puncture kept driving and that is the result. This looks like it is your error.

Wow. That tire is destroyed!

YES!

Hi so it is not actually a new car as it is 1.5 years old and now the consumable tires need to be replaced well that is your problem not the dealer sunshine didn't look close enough when buying it did you. If you had looked noticed this and pointed it out at the time the dealer might have changed them. Too late now.

  • When you buy/lease a brand new car, are you able to add things/customize it at the dealer? In 2014 my friend financed a base model Jetta brand new red. However his model came with fog lights and LED turn signals but had hub caps. However, my other friend had a 2014 Jetta as well and had the middle trim and had no fog lights or LED turn signals but had aluminum alloy rims. Can you add things like that to a car? I know at Honda if I wanted Fog lights on the middle trim they would ask me to upgrade entirely to the highest trim which i don't need, I just want the fog lights
