2007 Honda Element with 64k, owner's manual says 110k for valve adjustment. How can one size fit all without knowing how I drive?

No issues with the car but some say if the engine is noisy it is time to adjust the valves, others say just the opposite, if the engine is quiet the valves are too tight and need adjusting. Any one want to give some opinions?

The sensible thing here, I think, is to wait for 110k and do it then whether you're hearing untoward noises or not; there's no reason to think you've messed it up.

Generally valve stems elongate and make the valve clearance too tight - but if Honda says 110k then that should be adequate - in material how you drive the engineers have certainly factored in plenty of leeway for different types of abuse.

I've had three Accords with the same 2.4L motor and I've never had to get a valve adjustment. My 04 had 293,000 miles and still ran well. Just put in good plugs, like NGK Iridium or Denso Iridium, a new air filter - $19, and change the oil regularly and it will run well. Use synthetic motor oil 5w-20 or 5w-30 (the 5w-30 will run quieter) and a good quality oil filter (Purolater Boss), and it will run almost forever!

Honda's have such a bad common problem with the valves getting tight that they need to be adjusted every 60,000 miles! I know from experience.
