How do i convince my dad that the 2013 Honda Fit can handle a 400-km roadtrip without a problem?

He keeps insisting that pickup trucks are better for roadtrips just because they have bigger engine and that the Honda Fit engine will overheat well my car hasn't shown any sign of possible engine failures

Well I say that subcompact cars are better for roadtrips because they are more fuel efficient…

Why 400km? There are no places to stop and get your car maintenance?

My car is micro, a 999cc 3-cylinder 9 foot long 2013 Smart Convertible. Had to see my mother, drove from L.A. To Phoenix (380 miles, over 600 km,) visited for 2 days and then drove home. No problem. No worry.
In '70 I helped my sister drive from Detroit to L.A., in a 36hp air-cooled Volkswagen.
In the '70's I had a Fiat 238 van/camper that could not hit 60 mph. Drove it from Mexico to Canada.
I have never had any overheating problem, 'cept in '89, in a GMC K2500 400sbV8. Had to run the heater in 100+ weather.

But you *Can't* convince your dad about anything. Just stand you ground and take your Fit on the trip.

Your dad is wrong.

I wonder why a bigger engine is significant? It is not. I have driven my 2011 Fit about 103,000 miles. (106,000 KM). I have driven in excess of 400 km on at least 30 occasions and have never had any problem of any sort. The small engine has never overheated because it has a cooling system designed for small engines. Most of my road trips have included crossing mountains, and still no problem.

Dad is not wise. My 07 FIT does 500km each weekend, passing by pickup trucks that have overheated. I'm not totally heartless; I wave to them as I zip by. My other 4 cylinder car did 800km/day without a complaint… Passing all manner of vehicles and gas stations.(Even doing700km/day on "half an engine" so on 2 cylinders I was doing 100kph in 90F heat… Could have gone farther but towns are that close together. So that is about 25HP in a aircooled VW)
. My single cylinder motorcycle can do that without difficulty.

He has been convinced by the car companies that big is better. Bigger engine is fine if you are towing a trailer or a boat but is sufficient if it is not carrying that kind of extra weight.

Fits don't have trailer hitches so it has nothing but your but.

. It will drive his pickup truck into the ground (and will be able to Double that in distance)after his truck has hit the Junkyard.

Now you know. Besides, it is YOUR PROBLEM, RIGHT? Should there be an issue. There won't(battery might be because it is 5 years so you are getting near the time of Battery Death(no matter what car it is in) You may get 6 or even 7. Long distance driving is not an issue for the battery either.

Wrong. All cars sold in US can do about as well on a long trip. His A** may not feel as well from a trip in your Fit versus a 1 ton club cab truck. Your ol' man sounds like mine did----he thought my '91 Mazda was "toast " at 125K, when odometer went to one million.Dad was raised fixing Model "T"' s.

I took a Yar-Piss 280 miles to Williams; that is 375 KM, except for slowing to 50 on hills, ran Ok; no "heating" even at 7,000 feet. Actually very quiet and smooth for a sub -liter sized motor.

Explain to him that honda fits are for girls, and as a girl you feel more comfortable in that. A man, of course is strong enough to put his bags in the back of a pickup truck and drive it, but as a girl, you feel more at home in a honda fit.

Your dad is an idiot - just stand toe-to-to and nose-to-nose and tell him that

My KIA Rio (which is tiny) handles road trips Edinburgh - Munich no problem. That. About 1100 miles each way.

  • Honda 400 ex wiring problem? Ok, so I took the front fender plastics off my 2002 honda 400 ex to fix the plastic where it was cracked. I wish i would've taken a picture of how things were hooked up. Now, there's only 2 slide in type connectors and 3 click in type connectors. They're for the headlights and ignition switch. I can't figure out how they go back together and hook up. Any help is greatly appreciated.
  • How long can you drive a Honda Fit continuosly (without stopping except for refuelling for a minute) I have a 2013 Honda Fit 1.3 L with 50k miles on its clock. So far, it still runs smooth like new. How long can I drive it continuosly until it overheats?
  • Can I get satellite radio for 2013 honda fit sport? My honda fit also has the built in navigation but does not have the satellite radio feature. For anyone that has this type of car or had this type of situation was the dealer able to add a software of some sort and get it or will I have to buy the add on to connect to the dash?
  • Can a 2013 Honda Fit last 20 years or 300k miles I want to save really lots of money so I'm not buying a new car for the next 15 years. My 2013 Honda Fit would be my workhorse till 2033.
