Should I change my transmission fluid?

I have a 2009 Honda Fit manual transmission. I bought the car with 100k now 145k and never have had it changed. I've heard horror stories to not to change it on high mileage cars which is why I haven't had it done.

Just make sure it's full…

You can get it changed, I would NOT get a "transmission flush".

'If it ain't broke don't fix it'. However I can't see what harm it could possibly do. The stories will be from lunatics who don't own a car.

I have never changed manual transmission oil. And I have driven twice as far, but it is better for you to change it than to lose sleep worrying

You can change it if you want to, won't hurt anything, but if there isn't a change interval in the owners manual, just keep it topped up. A factory fill with a synthetic gear oil will likely last for the life of the car.

We usually don't do many manual transmission changes no need to. If its not leaking leave it alone. But if you want piece of mind find local shop at ATRA.COM for price to do it

Just change half and add lucas stop slip… The right amount… Id buy a pump and measure it, suck it out into jugs…1 quart plus 24 ounces of stop slip… You could also change the filter… But save half the old fluid with the pump.

The horror stories are about automatic transmissions, not manual transmissions.

I'm not saying that a manual transmission wouldn't benefit from new lubricant, but the old lubricant doesn't get dirty like ATF does. The normal operation of an automatic transmission involves constant clutch disc friction material wear.

Your old lubricant is likely to be very clean.

At minimum, make sure your lubricant level is full.

See if there's a drain plug.

If it's not broken don't mess with it, otherwise you're taking a risk of breaking it. Many cars, especially manual transmissions and especially Honda's (they're very good, reliable cars!), can go for 300k miles or more and never need the transmission fluid changed. The only reason a transmission should be messed with is if it's acting up, having issues. If it's not acting up leave it alone.

It's not going to hurt to check the trans fluid and top it off it it needs to be.
