What motor will fit my 2004 Honda shadow spirit 750?

I have an 04 Honda shadow spirit 750 with a blown motor. I want to try to do an engine swap. I was wondering if engines from different years would fit?

You could probably make a couple of different years fit - but I would try to find one that is the same year to keep from running into problems with it mating up to the transmission, motor mount locations, wiring harness, etc.

Stick with the Honda 750. Honda made, and is still making, that same bike and engine for years so there should be many used engines for sale. Just be sure the output matches what you have, shaft or chain. A used one should come with the transmission gears, clutch, stator, covers, etc. Possibly not the carbs, however.

Several years ago there was a guy trying to put a VT1100 engine into his 800 Pacific Coast. Consensus was that it would work but he didn't come back to the forum to confirm. The 800 would have been the same basic engine as yours.

I had a '95 VT1100 Shadow for years. Still miss it.

A Honda Shadow 750 of course.

Almost certainly, but to be sure, I would join an owner's club and ask their advice.

Get the same engine again from a wrecker… Fortunately for you, cruiser bikes are not at the cutting edge of performance (and don't need to be) so manufacturers tend to leave the engines alone for many years, except for minor upgrades like fitting fuel injection from carbies for emissions reasons. So you should be able to find one that drops straight in. Also, depending how "blown" your old motor is, don't discount getting it rebuilt. They're not super complex motors.

All the RC44E engines made between 2001 and 2007 will fit straight in. Any other Shadow engine will require some sort of modification, if you wanted to use it.

Fit a set of pedals.

  • Would a Honda Shadow Phantom 750 be a begginer motorcycle? OK. I'm 16 years old I've bought all the nessecary gear I got that idea of watching cyclecruza's squid videos and didn't want that to happen to me. Well because I shouldn't look up to my dad who rides a Harley 1200 who only wears a helment a t shirt and just jeans. I know not to go over the speed limit but all I need to know if thus good first bike.
  • What tools do I need to remove the motor to my Honda Shadow Spirit? I have an old 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit with a blown motor. I want to try to take it apart and remove the engine. If I buy tool kit for the Honda Shadow will that come with all the tools I need, or are those tool kits more just for basic stuff. Just wondering if I need to buy a full socket set. And also if the bolts are metric sizes or standard?
  • What is the max speed in each gear for a 2009 Honda Shadow Spirit 750? I can't find any details, even from Honda, what the maximum speed in MPH is for each of the 5 gear ratios on my 750 Shadow. Also, what is the engine redline? No factory tach and no details on what the engine is capable of turning.
  • Is this 2004 Honda Shadow Spirit a good deal? So this is my first bike purchase and I want some opinions before I go for it. The bike I'm interested in has been dropped on both sides, needs front brakes, a rear tire, oil change, and turn signals. It is going for $2000 and has 23K miles on it. It also has a Cobra exhaust system that the owner says is worth $450. http://ventura.craigslist.org/mcy/4577908483.html How much would I be looking at for repairs as well?
