Could i have fought my ticket in court?

Ok so today i was driving down the road back to my house. Not speeding or being reckless or anything, and also i drive a 2004 honda s2000 (if you don't know what that is i would look them up because they're sports cars and i'm sure that this had a play in the ticket. So i'm just driving and i don't always signal when i change lanes only when its actually busy on the roads but there really weren't any cars around me and the car in front of me was driving slowly so i went around him, about 15 seconds later a car slams on his breaks without signaling or anything and turns into a gas station and so instead of slamming on my breaks i just go around him, without signaling.About 10 seconds later i have a cop behind me and he turns his lights on and so i pull over. I ask him why i was pulled over and stated i know it wasn't for speeding and he says it was for not signaling when changing lanes, and so i explained to him that a car in front of me didn't signal and he says hes been watching me and i've changed lanes multiple time now without signaling (which is true but like i said the road is not busy) and so he doesn't seem to care. He goes back to his car looks at my record and sees that i have a few warnings and comes back with a ticket. I also have a puppy in my passenger seat and if i would have slammed on my breaks he would have went into my dashboard. So, i want to know if i could actually win this in court or if the judge if the judge will just side with the cop.

When did not signaling a lane change become legal if "the road wasn't busy?"

You admit the ticket was valid.

So no, playing the puppy card wouldn't have gotten you out of a ticket.

When thinking of fighting in court you first must ask do they have any proof?

You will probably lose. Your best chance is for the cop not to show up in court so you win by default.

It's possible, yes. And even if you didn't get the ticket thrown out, you could probably get it reduced just by showing up and explaining to the judge. And since it was a moving violation and adds points to your record, you could also request to be given light community service or agree to take a driver safety course instead of having those points on your record.

Too long to read. You clearly state that you broke the law several times and that you do it all the time. You seem to think that you only have to follow the law when others are around, not when the roads are empty. That is simply not true.

In any case, you are welcome to try to fight this with the judge, but you are guilty, so you decide what is right here.

I'd suggest you start signaling when changing lanes. Is that turn signal stick too heavy for you? Does it take too much energy to signal? Jeez!

"Could i have fought my ticket in court?" Sure, it is your right to contest a traffic infraction. However you have no defense. If the only time you failed to signal was the last time, you might have gotten off all together. However since the officer observed you change lanes several times without signaling it is very unlikely the judge would have dismissed the case.

I have held a license in several different states because of my time in the Navy. Not once when reading the handbook did it say that turn signal use was only required "when its actually busy on the roads".

According to you, you changed lanes without signaling several times, but the road was clear. If you are asking if having a clear road means you need not signal, I do not know. There's no such law in my state, but I have not read the entire criminal code of every city, county, state and nation in the world.

Yea. Because the law says that you only need to use the turn signal when you feel like it.

No you wouldn't win. It doesn't matter that there weren't many cars. There were obviously enough for you to have to go around two and almost hit the other. You always have to signal when changing lanes.

If you are that concerned about your puppy you should have had him secured in a carrier.

I'm sure the court will sympathise with the "puppy in my passenger seat" excuse. Your chances of winning are slim to none. Use a pet carrier when traveling with your pet.

  • What does P mean on a parking ticket where your vehicle type is written? As in: Vehicle GRY HOND P? I received a parking ticket and really can't afford to pay it! My friend told me I should look for typos on the ticket in order to contest it. On the ticket where the vehicle type is listed, the line reads: "Vehicle GRY HOND P". I do own a grey honda, but I was not sure what the P stood for? I tried to google but couldn't find anything - please help!
  • Traffic court? Cab someone testify they where the one speeding? I was in a 2013 mustang and my girlfriends kid was trying to race.me in his honda. I wouldn't have anything to do with it. We'll we go around a corner and he accelerates and passes me and cuts in my lane. At that time there was a cop running radar and he pulls out and gets behind us. He pulls us over and my gfs kid in the Honda kept going. We'll if I use him in court and he admits to being the one speeding will he get the ticket? Or can they not do anything?
  • Is this a guaranteed way to get out of a traffic ticket? Cops can't pull over/ticket diplomats right? You know, diplomatic immunity and whatnot? Plus I drive a black Honda that looks like it could be an official vehicle of an Embassy or Consulate. So suppose I put fake diplomatic plates on my car? That way if a cop ever clocks me for speeding and pulls up behind me intending to pull me over, he'd see my plates and not touch me with a 20 foot pole. Lol could that work?
