Honda fcx clarity dangerous?

The honda fcx clarity runs off hydrogen only and i was wondering isn't that dangerous considering that hydrogen is very flamable? Did they make a solution for that?

Safety was top of mind when Honda decided to put the FCX Clarity on the road. Much was learned by the successful introduction of the Civic GX Natural Gas Vehicle, which has many similar fuel-system attributes. Safety research and years of real-world, on-the-road Civic GX experience has served as an excellent proving ground for Honda's expertise with the new fuel cell systems.

Hydrogen Safety
Sensors are located throughout the vehicle to provide a warning in the unlikely event of a hydrogen leak. Should such a leak occur, the ventilation system is activated and an automatic system closes the main cut-off valves on the hydrogen tank or supply lines as necessary. The high-voltage lines are electrically isolated. Sensors provide a warning in case of grounding. In the event of a collision, high-voltage contactors shut down the source power line. Repeated flood and fire testing have confirmed a very high level of safety and reliability.

Refueling Safety
Honda has taken safety precautions with regard to refueling safety. To prevent reverse flow from the tank, the hydrogen filler inlet has an integrated check valve. The fuel intake mechanism is also designed to prevent contamination by other gases or the connection of nozzles designed for hydrogen stored at incompatible pressure levels.

The FCX Clarity is not an experiment or prototype. This is a full-featured vehicle that can be driven with both pride and confidence. Learn more about how the FCX Clarity helps keep you safe in a crash.

Only as dangerous as any other combustion vehicle which runs on gas. The liquid fuel used in combustion vehicles isn't the dangerous part, it is the fumes(gasoline mist) which reacts with open flames. Also, the entire car and fuel system was designed by Honda around making all parts of the car safe for everyday conditions. Which include fittings, gaskets, seals, pumps, lines, and even the material in which the fuel comes in contact with to ensure static charges are discharged long before any problems would arise. So, to make a long answer shorter, yes they have to be safe or else they wouldn't be able to be sold to me and you. Hope this helps.

I'm sure any safety issues have been totally eradicated. This vehicle has been on the drawing board for like 15 to 20 years and they would not be releasing it to the public for leasing if it posed any safety issues. I'm sure they have done hundreds of crash tests that cover every conceivable situation, done the gamut of testing and retesting. Nothing, of course, is totally safe but I'm sure it's a lot safer than a gasoline engine. Also, I might note that this vehicle was conceived by the best Japanese engineers on the planet. These people know what they are doing and do it better than anyone.

Rumor is that if you hit it it might go boom, but seems safe and a freaking deal comparing $4.21gal in Chicago land area to $1 a gal to what it would take.

  • What makes the Honda 3 wheeler more dangerous than a quad bike? So I was talking to a guy about motorbikes, 3 wheelers and quads yesterday. He said that the 3 wheeler didn't have something and that made it dangerous and was the reason quads are more successful. I know they have no suspension etc and obviously have one less wheel but what else is there? Something about the actual engineering of the vehicle? I'm not talking about inexperienced riders. Anyone help?
  • How dangerous is a blown head gasket? I have a honda integra 1990 had a recent radiator problem lots of over heating all fixed now. Just discovered recently my head gasket is blown just curious is it worth replacing? What does it exactly do when its blown?
  • Will Honda Prelude struts fit a Honda Accord? I have a 1999 Honda accord ex V6 sedan. has stock 15 inch wheels, but will have 17 inch 2006 Acura TL wheels on it soon this will raise my ride height, so instead of spending 1000$ on coilovers, I was wondering if the struts of a 1997 Prelude would fit my car. Any suggestions as to if this might work? Any feedback will be appreciated.
  • Does a 4 door honda civic si cost more on insurance than a honda civic lx/ex/? I'm looking to buy a used 2010 honda civic si. I've had 4 other cars insured in the past. My insurance is progressive. I've done quotes on several years of the honda civic 4 door and they seem to be in my favor however, the quote doesn't ask for the trim of the vehicle. When i put my vin in will my premium go up? Sorry i'm bad at asking question if that doesn't make sense
