Honda s2000 engine removal advice?
Ok here's the deal. I'm going to be removing an engine that grenaded from a 2002 honda s2000 in the driveway next week. Just for the record I'm not a back yard parts changer, I'm a master technician just looking for a little friendly advice, so please no insults or arguments. Scrolling threw Alldatapro I noticed it said remove the transmission but looking at the car it didn't look necessary. Is there a reason it wants me to do this? It looks like there's plenty of room. Maybe I don't see something. I just don't want to remove anything that I don't need to in the driveway. Any advice from somebody that's done this job before would be much appreciated.
It's a RWD so in order to remove the engine you're still have to drop the transmission. Honda labor time for the car's clutch job is 7 hrs and a long block replacement is 15.3 hrs.
I have tried to just pull back the transmission before. Did it once and in my humble opinion dropping the transmission or let it sit on a floor jack is the same. Let it sit on the floor is much safer on the driveway. Anyway, learn my lesson: Doing it on the driveway is very tedious job as you can't get the car elevated enough to have room to work with the transmission.
On the second time to pull the engine out, I came to one of the repair shops in my area that they let me used one of their lift for $50/ day. Made things easier either engine or clutch replacement. I got the deal because I've help them from time to time with the diagnosing some hard cases. This was before I got my own shop.
If you're a certified technician you're must be still working for a dealer or a repair shop. Work out a deal with them. It took a day or two depending on your experience. E mail if you have more question. HTH
