How much to build a motor?

Just want a ball park of labor cost to build the internals of a motor or honda motor. Located in California. I want to go all motor build and put in aftermarket pistons, rods, camshaft, valvesprings/retainers.

$2,000.00

Pistons $500-$700

Cam(s) $350-$1500

Rods $300-$500

Springs/retainers $250

Picked a b18 since you didn't provide any useful info.

Plus machine work, replacing water pump/timing belt, timing gear(s), seals, gaskets, engine pull and install…

Few grand to get the ball rolling…

Then you will have to tune it.

As for labor, going to be a couple grand minimum.

  • 2004 Honda Crf150f Build? So I found a crf150f frame for 20 bucks on craigslist in great condition. It has the back swingarm the cdi box and the spark plug cables. I'm either gonna sell it on ebay for a higher price or build a bike. I know this is a beginners bike but it's a step up from what I have now which is a mini bike. I was wandering if i do decide to buld the bike what should I buy first to start the build. Do any of you have an order in which you build a bike? Let me know.

  • If in the owners manual it says I should use 5W-20 motor oil, can I use 10W-40 motor oil instead? I have a 2009 Honda Fit. I just recently bought 10W-40 and when I got home to put oil in the manual said 5W-20. What's the difference? And is it okay if I still use the 10W-40?
