How to make my car faster?
I have 1997 Toyota Corolla I know its made more for reliability then speed, but I want to do as much as I can without removing seats and stuff like that out of the car. I have a high budget. I already have a cold air intake on it. I was considering putting headers on it. But I don't want to because that makes it not street legal. I know Honda has Vtec. Does Toyota have anything of that sort? I thought I heard something about VVTi but I also heard that its overrated. Just looking for a lot more horses and torque. Anything helps thanks!
A Corolla was not made for reliability or speed. It was made to be a disposable, fuel efficient car that people drive for 100k miles then throw away for a new one.
Honestly, if you have a high budget… Get a different car that's made to go fast to start with.
You have a high budget? Spend it on buying a performance car.
Vtec doesn't mean more power… German cars ( VANOS) have been using it way before honda started using it. It's more for adjusting the cams timing on low rpm.
Cold air intake doesn't add horsepower. It makes a cool sound though
corollas are reliable cars as you mentioned. They are definitely my favs however there's not much power you can squeeze out of a 100 HP engine… The best you can do is upgrade your spark plugs, wires, fuel filter…
if I were you I would spend that budget on replacing essential components that will extend the life and performance of the car: brakes, tires, oil changes…

Adding headers will NOT make your car not legal, sigh… I used a double negative, arrg. Have a qualified mechanic or auto repair shop rebuild your engine with a small turbo.
